My Mum and I enjoyed a lovely weekday lunch at Sim'R a couple of weeks ago.

Initially when looking at the menu I thought that the prices looked to be a bit pricey, however when the meals were served we realised they were great value - I don't mind paying a bit extra for such delicious and generous meals that were beautifully presented.

The steak sandwich was so big and was served on the most amazingly fresh sourdough bread slices. The steak itself was tender and the fillings tasted good too. The Potato Dumplings tasted really good too.

The wait staff were friendly and checked in with us after we had received our meals to make sure that everything was ok, and again after we had finished our meals to ask if there was anything else we would like to order.

We enjoyed a cappucino and white hot chocolate after our meal. We both enjoyed the taste of our drinks but my Mum found that she had to drink the cappucino straight away as it wasn't very hot.

When I first walked in to Hashtag for a weekday lunch I was almost a little overwhelmed by it all. The decor was a kind of industrial style - almost factory like with very high ceilings. There were plenty of tables available and staff members behind the bar area, however we weren't sure if we needed to wait to be seated or if we could just sit anywhere so had to approach the bar staff. We were advised to sit anywhere we liked and to come up to the bar area to order drinks and to go to the other counter area to place our food orders and pay.

At the bar area I asked if I could get a bottle of water for the table and was told that you can get your own water, however I wasn't told where to get the water from so had to ask! The water was available from a water dispenser and the water jugs were actually quite large.

The menu was small but offered a good variety of dishes that are available all day long rather than just during lunch and dinner times. The drinks menu had some nice looking cocktails and lots of other alcoholic drinks on it. I ordered the Fish Tacos and my friend ordered Calamari, chips and salad. Both meals tasted good and were brought out quite quickly. The portion size was good considering the price of the meals. After we had finished our meals our empty plates were not cleared in the 20 extra minutes that we sat talking at the table.

They had a selection of cakes and slices on display in a cabinet but we were too full to order anything else.

Overall the meals tasted great but the service (or lack of) was a let down. The staff were friendly when we engaged them but did not go out of their way to interact with the customers.

Jag's Grill is a great little restaurant that serves a variety of American style meals - burgers, spare ribs, southern fried chicken and sliders.

We were seated promptly and placed our orders. The waitress was quite cheerful and pleasant, however the service was a little on the slow side.

The spare ribs were amazing! The meat just fell away from the bones and the marinade sauce was delicious. The portion size was way too large for one person though.

Overall a decent meal at a good price.

At FroCreations you pay a set price for a cup which you can fill with whichever ice-creams, frozen yoghurt, sorbets and toppings you choose, rather than having to pay extra for the toppings. They have a range of different flavours that changes regularly. Mango sorbet, chocolate, and cookies and cream.

They also make waffles (which look delicious although I have never tried them) and have a competition to see how quickly you can eat them.

FroCreations is a Country Cakes store so they stock a range of Country Cakes freshly baked cakes, slices, muffins and pastries. They also do hot drinks and milkshakes, along with a small range of hot food.

The staff are very friendly and you can eat in or takeaway.

Finding a nearby car park can be a bit difficult as it is quite busy along Pall Mall/High Street.

This review is for Rozzi's Italian Canteen, Craigieburn VIC

I dined at Rozzi's Italian Canteen as a party of 6. We hadn't made a booking but were able to be seated as it was for an early dinner.

The menu was entertaining . . . the pizza and pasta dishes had names like Zoink Zoink , Foghorn and Nemo!

Our meals all came out at the same time. I ordered the chicken parmigiana - the meal was quite large and consisted of a parmigiana, salad and chips. The parmigiana was a little dry around the edges but aside from that was quite tasty.

The desserts were delicious and the hot drinks were served in ginormous bright yellow cups! The coffees tasted good and were hot.

As the restaurant got busier it got a little bit harder to hear each other at the table.

Rozzi's Italian Canteen was easily accessible for my grandmother who was in a wheelchair.

This review is for Hamilton Island Sunset Paddle Tour, Yulara NT

My partner and I decided to do the Sunset Sea Kayaking Tour on Hamilton Island for $59 each for an hour and a half paddle tour. There is a maximum of 10 people on this tour (5 kayaks).

We got to the Marina and filled out a couple of forms and were then provided with the opportunity to apply sunscreen if we had forgotten to already. We then moved around to the area of the marina where the kayaks were stored and were introduced to our guide, Alice. Alice first of all got everyone in to life jackets and then proceeded to seat everyone into a kayak (on the dock) to adjust foot peddles and rudders and go over some basic kayaking techniques. After a few minutes the kayaks were placed into the water and Alice helped everyone into them and gave us the opportunity to practice kayaking in the small area of the marina away from other boat traffic.

Alice led the way guiding us on our kayaking and talking as we paddled along, pointing out landmarks from the unique ocean view that we had. At times it was a little difficult to hear even though we were all kayaking close together.

After we had paddled for a while we stopped and lined up all of the kayaks together and enjoyed a glass of champagne or orange juice that was provided while we watched the beautiful sunset.

At the beginning of the tour we were able to see some fish swimming around in the sea beneath us and we even got to see a turtle poke his head up from the water. It was getting a little dark (being dusk) so harder to see any fish or coral after that.

We had a great time and felt safe and confident in Alice's ability to guide the group and provide assistance with steering and the paddling technique. It was a lovely way to finish off our week on the island.

This review is for Pool Terrace, Yulara NT

verified email - 06 May 2014

As the name implies, the Pool Terrace overlooks the Reef View Hotel pool area which is nice when no one is in the pool but a bit awkward when people are swimming right in front of where you are eating.

The breakfast buffet was extensive and included lots of different foods but it would have been nice if more variety was available on different days rather than having the same selection each day. The omelette station was a highlight. There was a coffee machine that you could make your own coffees otherwise we were advised by staff that barista made coffees could be ordered from the bar area, however when I enquired this came at an additional charge of $4.50.

The iced coffee was nice and I enjoyed that by the poolside but the found the rest of the poolside menu to be limited and overpriced.

The staff tried to be attentive but it felt a little impersonal as they all buzzed around seating guests and clearing tables.

The food itself was fine but nothing exceptional.

This review is for Sails Steak And Seafood Grill, Yulara NT

My partner and I enjoyed both buffet breakfasts and evening dinners at Sails Steak and Seafood Grill.

The restaurant is casual looking and has an almost cafe like atmosphere to it. There was outdoor tables overlooking the pool and with a view of the beach. We were shown to our tables and provided with menus. Meals have to be ordered and paid for at the front counter and drinks were available for purchase from the bar. We ate outdoors for most of our meals here as it was quieter and nice to eat overlooking the pool area.

The breakfast was a buffet and was quite substantial with lots of variety. The food was all freshly prepared and the hot foods were hot (sometimes I find that buffets aren't as hot). During breakfast time the birds were a bit of a hassle however the staff do a good job at shooing them away from the outdoor seating and tables.

For the evening meals on one occasion we ordered steaks which were served with a small bowl of salad and some 'fat chips' which was actually more like potato cut into thick wedges. Both of the steaks were cooked pretty much as requested and the sauces were good. The meals came out relatively quickly.

The staff were all friendly and attentive (clearing plates and empty glasses pretty much as soon as we had finished eating).

Once again I enjoyed the Manta Ray Cafe's meals. This time we ordered over the phone and had our meals delivered to our hotel accommodation.

The pizza was hot and full of toppings although $28 is still very expensive for one large pizza!

Our pizza was delivered within 40 minutes of ordering and the staff member who delivered it was friendly. We were able to charge the pizza to our room which was easier than needing to have cash available.

I booked an hour relaxation massage at Spa Wumurdaylin and thoroughly enjoyed the massage experience.

The treatment room was exceptionally clean and had quite tranquil with views of the lush greenery, relaxing music playing, and dimmed lighting.

My massage therapist discussed with me what I was hoping to get out of the massage and any particular areas that I wanted her to focus on throughout the massage. During the massage itself the therapist checked in with me about the pressure being used. I felt so calm and relaxed and really enjoyed every aspect of the massage session - my legs had been sore from all of the snorkeling I had been doing and the massage helped to relieve some of the aches.

I was brought out a cup of herbal tea after the treatment and also offered a glass of water.
