Well I was expecting very good things but got quite ordinary things! Not bad food, or service or coffee, just ok. I can't help but feel there are better, cheaper places in SM.
Very good! Their big breakfast always goes down a treat after a big night. They also have a great patisserie with tastey treats. And If you want a quick lunch to takeaway you can just grab a quick baguette.
Came here for a breakfast with friends when we were in melbourne on recommendations from locals. It is easy to see why this place is so popular. Busy but not overly packed and a very pleasant dining experience. The waiter who spotted us immediately ushered us to some comfortable seats where we were given the menus. The menu was not overly extensive but surely had something for everyone including vegetarians. Food was served promptly and we felt a bit overpriced but definitely very filling. We weren't allowed to pay separately but that wasn't too much of a problem for our group, just a little inconvenient.
Great concept, great atmosphere and interior surrounds. It is down a cobblestoned alleyway and behind bolted wooden doors. The cakes can be quite nice - they sell individually sized mousse cake creations for around $7 each.
There are a few disappointing aspects with this cafe however.
1. Food - Most items sound great on the menu, but fall short in delivery. For example, we ordered the slow baked mushroom ($18.5), morrocan baked eggs ($18.5) and beetroot salad ($18.5). Given the pricing of each dish we expected a little more in terms of quality of execution and servings. Whilst carefully presented, the portions were small and executed without precision. The elements of the dishes were not in perfect harmony and it felt rushed/mass produced and thrown together.
2. Acoustics - the interiors are lovely. Unfortunately however, the hard laminate flooring is terrible for acoustics. This place can become very loud and noisey whenever there is a decent number of patrons, which is most of the time.
3. Lack of Flexibility - If you wish to pay by card, it is a $25 minimum. They do not split bills. This is an inconvenience.
Great review!
I took my mother here for her birthday breakfast and boy was i not dissapointed the opposite actually and I am so proud of my myself for finding this place. what a great choice of a cafe top quality, tasting coffee & food,& the cakes are to die for. They even have samples. They also have an open kitchen so you can see them making cakes, etc from scratch

Good review! Makes me want to visit Chez Dre sometime!
Great to hear you enjoyed this place
What I normally have when i came to Chez dre... I just love to have a cake there .. Must try the Eclair .. you wont be disappointed. Excellent service eventhough they are always busy ..
Finally had a chance to try this place out and I must say this place is better than St Ali. Great coffee and most important of all, great brekkie. I tried the cheese souffle and a croissant. The souffle served with avocado salsa was amazing-best I've ever tasted. The croissant was so buttery and addictive.
One of the best (if not the best) coffee blends I've tasted lately! Plus the coffee is a bit cheaper than other cafes in the area. They also have yummy pastries and sweet treats! Nice place for a coffee break.
I have always wanted to try this place because I heard it has better coffee than St Ali. Must go this weekend
I must say both places offer good quality coffee. In my opinion It's good to change cafes every now and again and taste a different coffee blend. Thank you for the review and looking forward to reading about your experience.
This was literally love at first sight! Such an amazing and warm place with an incredible ambience. Great menu and food was really good too, the mousse was seriously heavenly. Love the quaint little courtyard and how it's nestled amongst our fabulous laneways; this is definitely a true gem!
Wow, macarons to die for! I went here for breakfast which I wouldn't recommend but the lunch menu looked fantastic and the pastry case is mouth watering. They have a gorgeous sunny courtyard as park of the dining area of this old warehouse.
“I went there with my Mum this afternoon and I got myself a Tiramisu for $5 so I”…
