The service here is average, however the food is very authentic and we found the atmosphere very fun.
Good authentic food and atmosphere.
I visited Captain Torres with a group of four on a Friday night. We had a nice night and enjoyed the food. As it was Friday we also got to watch the Flamenco Dancing, which was fun. The service was however quite pathetic.... after exhaustively (literally!) taking our order of the first wait staff, we had to have another wait staff come over and re-do it. We requested our Tapas come out gradually. We were told this could be arranged. Then another wait staff came and said it was not possible. All would be served at once. We did have an overall fun night but dealing with their waitstaff was tiresome.
My favourite experience here is to order a bunch of tapas at the bar with a friend. A place to catch up, share some plates and enjoy some yummy tappas. I've also had a large group here and shared some of the larger dishes like Paella. It was all excellent food. I find the service to be consistently good after having visited many times over the years. Be warned you will leave smelling like garlic. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I should have known when i ordered the Jamon Serrano ($17 for 100 grams) at the bar waiting for the other guests to arrive and received some of the most tasteless prosciutto I've ever had that it could not get better from there. I was right. When i asked for a "Midori" the wait staff almost fell over! Very flustered and scatterbrained - and i am South American so the language barrier was no problem! We were shown upstairs to our tables where our large party was to be catered to. I'm sure that individual orders or a small party would havbeen catered to well but quite simply - i was pissed off that i ended up paying $41 as part of the group menu for substandard food. At the end of the night it's all about the FOOD! Prawns in a garlic, tomato and onion sauce that were okay. Followed by a calamari that could have used a pinch of salt and some aioli. Mussels & more seafood followed with 'champignions' - um button mushrooms - in a disappointing sauce. And then came the paella which is a waste of a dish. The rice was mushy an unappetising. And then came what would annoy me the most and happens all too often. A skit cut of thin steak which was passed off as 'veal' with undercooked potatoes & DEAD vegetables. I highly recommend not choosing this restaurant for your next function. They compromise on quality of food because they're too busy running around like chickens without heads, understaffed & overstressed to wait on your party. Extremely disappointing.
This is a great restaurant to go to with a group of friends so you can order a variety of dishes to share. The service was decent, with the meals arriving fairly quickly. The waiter wasn't very friendly, but that did not put us off our meals.
Hav ebeen many times and for many years - has good solid Spanish food I love - Has great customer service and great location. Easy to walk to from station and great to visit with a friend or work colleague. I try and get there often as I can!
Lovely Spanish food and a really lively fun atmosphere. Recommended.
Oh boy. This place is amazing. The tapas is possibly the best out of the three spanish restaurants on the street and they make AMAZING sangria. Yum.
I love this restaurant - and I love having tapas up at the bar too. (potata brava's, meatballs and chorizo - brilliant) It's traditional and the service is pretty rushed but still friendly. I recommend getting a group together and having the banquet, the paella is fantastic and the Sangria is good too.
