This restaurant offers delicious high quality chinese cuisine, prompt service, reasonably priced meals and fairly generous flavoursome portions. Loved their wonton soup and their 'tea smoked duck' was amazing.
Still yum. Still some really good street foods
And yes, still the same dingy type derelict corner shop where you don't really want to go inside as it's intimidating, but you want to all the same due to the smells coming out.
Salty chicken fried rice. Congee. Kwey Teo. Some of my favourites at this location
Good foods but too noisy.
The staffs are great, look after customers well.
Toilet need to be improved. Should seperate male and femail
I would say this place needs a renovation, but then it wouldn't have the same charm.
The places around have renovated and they've all come and gone. This place remains the sole establishment that understood that if they were doing something good, then don't tamper with it.
It was late at night and there weren't many restaurants open down Gouger St. We stumbled upon Ying Chow, and assumed that it would have good food because it was filled with diners.
It was quite cramped inside and the tables were quite oily. The menu options seemed appealing but once we received our food, they were anything but that. The Garlic prawns cost around $20 and for that price I was expecting more. I was so disappointed to be served 4 prawns that had simply been covered with garlic butter! The pork belly was also a let down and the fried rice was very salty.
The only good thing was the friendly service. We won't be back.
Ying Chow is an Adelaide institution. Dishes to try: Deep fried tofu, BBC, garlic prawns (if you like prawns), shallot pancake, short soup, eshand anything, red pepper anything, deep fried beef, and the ribs... THE RIBS! they are amazing!
Yingers can be a bit hitnmiss, but if you love food, try them twice and you'll fall in love, I promise!
The ratings I have given are for their food.
The actual place is small and not the best/cleanest, but that's what makes it so lovable. This is called Chinese quality!!
However, forgive them for their surroundings and just look at the patronage. Speaks volumes!
Interesting review. However I do like clean and efficient
I found the service to be very slow, the food ok, not really very inviting. Will not be returning.
Some friends wanted to have lunch here, so I finally had my chance to try it.
Well, I didn't enjoy this restaurant at all, the food was about average (I am being nice), the servings small and as for the customer service, well it certainly was lacking. No friendliness and slow, oh so slow service. My friends and I will not be returning.
It's small and it's not the most inviting.
But if you see the amount of Chinese people it draws in, then you can be sure that it's a good feed. So I stopped and gave it a go. They do all sorts of things and each of their menu items is good. I like the congee here. If you've never had it, then you should give it a try.
Approximate cost: $avg
It's a bit small, dirty and dingy, but the taste of the food is a little bit better. Not so much better that I would always come here, but it is good enough that I can say this safely.
As it's an Asian place, the service is a little lacklustre at the best of times having to deal with fun Asian accents, but if you can get past that, then all is good.
I don't mind coming here for their congee and they open usually very late so you can come for a 'near midnight snack' if you really want to :0p
Approximate cost: $avg
