This is the second time we've used Doug in the past 7 years. He provides practical and knowledgeable advice and options while quoting and was flexible about changes we requested to the work required. He and his apprentice arrived on time and finished a large-ish job on the same day, including going out during lunch to buy a replacement light fitting (as the original wasn't fit for purpose). The only drawback was being left with a sizable box of old fittings to dispose of, but then I guess he'd have to charge a lot more to cover said removal. I'll be asking him to quote on work at my Mum's place soon.

I texted Doug for a quote on replacing a ceiling fan and the cost was very reasonable although he couldn’t fit me in for 3 weeks but then he had a cancellation and I got it done about 2 days later. Can only say ‘just fantastic’. Gold star service. Old house, increasingly worrying power problem, don’t know an electrician, Google, choose, and what a win! After phone consultations and ‘try this you may not need an electrician’ (it didn’t work), within 24 hours the team arrived. Doug was friendly, informative and patient while telling me what the problem(s) could be. They started at the front of the house and worked their way through to the back. Brick walls and an old extension with a flat roof didn’t help in finding or solving the problem, but Doug did it! They worked late to complete everything, cleaned up and replaced all the furniture they had moved to gain access to the ‘hidden’ power points. So lucky to have chosen such a friendly and professional team. Can not recommend Doug and his team more highly. Thanks to wordofmouth I have found my ‘go to electrician’. Thank you.

Doug's out with for a 3rd time at the house, not fixing old jobs, this time he's saving the day as I cut through the electrical cable for the front gate while cutting the hedges. I texted him last night, he was with us first thing this morning. Same story when we got all the lights replaced in our living room and also when we got the electrics at our outdoor area fixed up. He's a top lad, came highly recommended, friendly and insightful. If there was a Medal of the Order of Australia for Services to the Electrical Industry, Doug would be a Recipient, he's that good!

Doug and his son were absolutely wonderful and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough! They did a fiddly rewiring/new oven install in our 70s kitchen September last year. I had a newborn + a toddler running around but they worked around that and were very conscious of noise. They did a great job, they also visited beforehand (free of charge) to make sure what we wanted was feasible with the current power situation. I found them so knowledgeable, communicative and professional and they did a fantastic job. Also very reasonably priced!

Doug from Melville Electrical is polite, down to earth but most importantly realisable and honest. Recently supplied and installed 2 LED batten lights in my garage. There’s only 1 “Sparky” I call! Honest advice and quotes where safety comes first. Our family feels safe when Melville electrics is on the job. Doug has installed inside and outside lighting, ovens, external and internal wall sockets, dimmer switches and even a whole fuse/switch box over the years. No1 in workmanship. His advice on wiring and safety etc Is first class.

After many years, I have finally found a really good electrician. I have had Doug attend the premise twice for two different reasons Oven install which required an old switchboard replacement and outdoor light circut re-run and light replacement and in both cases I have found the quality of the work, attention to detail excellent in all respects. Doug is terrific. My living room lights and outdoor light had completely stopped working, for unrelated reasons. Doug very quickly worked out the cause of these problems, and because I was interested and asked questions, he clearly explained the causes to me and how he could rectify them. He repaired the indoor light circuit, and then chose for me a new outdoor light fitting that really suits the surrounds. Everything went smoothly and I am very happy with the result. Thank you Doug.

Doug and Damien are the ATeam! Nothing was too much trouble and they conducted themselves in a highly professional manner. They installed 70+ replacement LED downlights to our home which had just been freshly painted throughout. We asked them to take extra care and to avoid fingerprint marks, or plaster damage to the ceilings. Our request was so well received by them that they agreed to wear protective white cotton gloves during the 2 days it took to complete the work. In addition they were both very respectful and lovely men to deal with, cleaning up their workspace at the end of each day. We recommend them highly to anyone looking for excellent electricians.

Also..he was happy to look at a 'little something extra' that just needed a pro's hand to fix. So helpful, kind and thorough! I felt the cost was very reasonable.... We've recently completed an upgrade to the power supply at our house, including a new mains pickup, and Doug has done a great job chasing up the old mains wiring at the front of our old Victorian, rewiring it and managing Citipower and the electrical inspector to get the job completed and certified. Doug came out on a public holiday because it would have been two weeks to wait otherwise and he knew we had no lights. He solved out lighting problem in a very practical way and he brought all the required fittings. Doug also noticed that the solar panels had been switched off by recent tradespeople and turned them back on. Very professional and lovely natured.

Firstly, Doug replies to text messages and calls as soon as he can. Does not treat women as fools and is always on time. If there is a slight variation with the appointment will give loads of notice to confirm it's OK with the customer. Polite, efficient, brilliant electrical skills and your ONLY Brunswick electrician. Well known in my street over many years has become 'our secret'. I never bother with a quote because safety & expertise is paramount, why would I bother? Job done once, job done right. 3 small jobs completed promptly on the day - we swapped a couple of light switches around on a panel for practicality, replaced a microwave globe (no way was I having a go after the YouTube video!) and checked a dud table lamp switch. A friend had left a retro lamp with me - more issues were revealed as Doug began to replace the old switch. He was completely honest re the high cost/time if my friend chose to go ahead with the work. All fully explained and demonstrated to me. Thanks Doug - always a pleasure!

After finding this company on this site, I decided to call and see what could be done for a new lighting and GPO install in my apartment. I was not disappointed. Doug provided some quick feedback on how we could approach it, and offered to come around and take some measurements and check the requirements. After a brief estimate whilst he was travelling to another job, we gathered the requirements and over the next couple of weeks after some further refinement, ordered the parts to my requirements. He came by on time, with all the equipment necessary and completed a fantastic piece of work that is about as close to factory-original as it could be. The net result is better than I expected, at a lower price than I had expected, and completed in a no-fuss manner. We've recently completed a major renovation to our house and Doug has done a great job with all the electrics. Pretty much a complete rewire and heaps of data points all through the house. Doug's experience and advice (and patience) really helped us with the planning and timing of works as well as the layout for the lighting, power and data. We needed our oven and rangehood replaced, as well as ducting installed to remove exhaust fumes out of the house. The latter involved climbing into the roof cavity and onto the roof. Doug was prompt in supplying a quote and arrived promptly at the agreed time. He had all the materials with him and the work was completed in 3.5 hours. His work was great, oven and range works well and he was friendly and professional. He also kept me informed regarding his work and added cost (oven power point needed to be changed to support increased amps). Old appliances and packing material were places neatly outside for our disposal. I called Melville Electrical in the hope of getting some halogens replaced with new transformers and led's. Doug came out a few days later and he did a very quick and thorough job. He was punctual, efficient and friendly and would be my electrician of choice for any future work. He even gave me some advice on some other work I was doing around the house. I also had a table lamp that wasn't working properly that I wanted him to fix. It was actually a problem with the power board which Doug immediately identified. Excellent work!

Doug installed a replacement light / fan combination in my toilet, the sort of small job that it can be difficult to get someone to do. The job ended up being a little more complex than I had thought due to problems with a lack of an earth supply to my old fitting. Doug was excellent in explaining what was required to be compliant with regulations and very accommodating in immediately undertaking what was needed. I highly recommend Melville Electrical, Doug was a pleasure to deal with, helpful, arrived on time and undertook the work in a professional and diligent manner. His pricing was more than reasonable and given his quality approach to safety and workmanship I think the cost was quite cheap for the peace of mind I have from the job being done properly. Doug will be my first point of call for any future electrical work.

I have had Doug back 3 times since my last review, for three different issues. Firstly, he installed a trip switch to my terrace. Obviously a lengthy process, Doug texted the night prior to confirm the time, and as usual was on time. He worked solidly to have everything safely installed, explaining all steps throughout the process. Doug on the next occasion installed spot lighting (8 sep locations) throughout my house. Fiddly and time consuming, no complaints, just hard work! A neat tidy job again. Recently I had that horrible burning electrical smell from a wall panel of 3 light switches. Doug was very flexible and fitted me in to his busy Saturday schedule at 7am to replace the panel, and remove the culprit, an offending dimmer switch (that was not needed with the new spot lighting). Doug's constant concern for safety, explaining everything fully, reliability with communication and appointment times, makes him the professional that he is. This is the trifecta for him to be undoubtedly your ONLY electrician.

Doug quoted to install two new power points as well as a free-standing electric induction cooker in my home. It was quite a big job, far bigger than I'd anticipated before I bought the stove. Had to get a new oven installed in our rental property. Melville Electrics had to cut a larger slot and discovered and informed that the previous wiring was not up to standard - which gave us peace of mind for us and our tentants. Also advised that we should move the gas lines as OH&S issues were likely with the slighter larger sized oven being installed. Great service but also a strong view on safety. Great to have the peace of mind that the job was done right and completed on time.

Installed Exhaust fan in bathroom. Rectified Art Deco power points which had been messed up by original electrician. It was a fiddly job fixing up the power points which took extra time. Doug patiently completed the work to finally complete my bathroom renovation.

We have used Melville Electrical services on a number of occasions for the installation of new lights, isolating power from old heaters, dimmers etc. Doug is very professional and safety focused. I recommend using them. The approximate cost was for our last work package - remove two pendant lights, replace with new ones, install two dimmer switches which included provision of the dimmers.

I've had Doug 3 times now. He's done electrical work for renovations, electricity to new water tanks and come in to repair a faulty ceiling fan and an exhaust fan. He is punctual, efficient, pleasant, trustworthy and lower in price than some other electricians I have had. For my exhaust fan, he brought a spare one which saved me time and extra cost for him coming back a second time.

Doug phoned promptly after my first contact via this page. He even phoned after the chaos of returning from holidays when we were to catch up. He clearly keeps an organised diary which is obvious! Doug arrived right on time to remove 4 existing light fittings with 4 new Victorian pendant fittings. I did not realise it would necessitate Doug needing to crawl around in the ceiling over the hallway and two rooms. Considering there were books/papers and the usual tax chaos everywhere, Doug deserves a gold star to have worked so efficiently with multiple obstacles! His experiences shows, I have already recommended him to several friends and I am delighted to have him return in the near future to install other new lighting and a trip switch.

Doug was able to fit me in at very short notice to install and replace five pendant lights in preparation for a party the following weekend. Doug remained good natured throughout even though the nature of the lights meant that the job was time consuming. He also took the time to explain other work we should consider having done at a future point in time and was happy to provide a detailed quotation for that work.

Douglas removed under cupboard lights in my kitchen and installed LED lighting in this area. He also reworked the electrics to accommodated a much larger wall oven. The work was completed promptly and with safety a top priority. I would not hesitate to use Doug again, nor I would I hesitate in recommending him to others.

I read the reviews here before I called Doug and I wanted to agree with all the reviewers who appreciated Doug's great customer service and electrical services. He let me know exactly when he could make it and although the job wasn't urgent he came as soon as he could. He fixed our switches in a jiffy and picked up on something else that could have been an issue (but he certainly wasn't pushy about fixing this).

This business was one of only two who replied to my initial messages left with about six local electricians. The other one gave me an email address to send them a list of the jobs to be done, to which I had no reply. By contrast, Melville Electrical Services replied the next day and came over within a week to inspect the works to be done. This provided me a chance to discuss the options available to me for the works that needed immediate completion but also works that could be done for future use (expansion and upgrade of circuit board to allow for later electrical installations). Doug was very patient and happy to explain all possibilities and these were done so very simply and clearly. The quote was supplied within two working days. Works were able to be done within the next week. Doug was punctual and efficient and professional in his approach to his work and tidied up as much as possible. These works passed the follow-up tests by the electrical inspector, who also commented on the high quality of this company's work. I highly recommend this company for their quality of work, willingness to discuss and explain all possible options, promptness with quotes and professional manner whilst undertaking works.
