Whilst traveling from Huonville to Castle Forbes Bay on 1/4 2009 behind a flat tray cechile (unsure of make/model) with camper on the back We were horrified at the driving standard! It went frrom a metre off the side of the road in the gravel edgings and also a metre or more over the white line! I eventually got past him and pulled him up with my hazard lights going and hand signals. I went to the drives door and he opened the window and I asked "Are you sick sir or are you drunk?" It was obviouse that he was sober then and I told him ,"there are children on this highway and you could bloody well easily kill one". He politely smiled and said,"No worries",gave me the finger and went to drive off> I grabbed the door handle, opened the door and told him "the police will have his rego number in ten minutes", he frowned, closed the door, gave me the finger again and left. I immediatly went to my companions home (2 k') and phoned the Huonville police station. I was put through to Hobart office then to the radio room. I told the officer/customer service that answered all about the horrific driving, my part in it and the offending drivers attitude of no care or thought and the very reall probabillity that there was an accident, and a possible death ahead for them to handle. Now this is the really horrible part! the person asked me"Do you want us to keep an eye out for him?" Amazed I replied "I want you to get him, I'll gladly be a witness". Guess the response, No? "Well sir there's not much we can do, it's a mainland plate and we dont have a home address" Even more Horrified I asked "What about the police there?" The next came "We dont have anything to do with them" and that was it! I cant believe that the states and federal systems of government are going on so much about the road death figures and they dont have any co-operation of all the police administration systems nation wide! Unless this idiot is "accidently" put out of action (I mean by breakdown or police action) there is a VERY high chance of him either dieing or killing some one else befor he goes home (or after he gets there) and "nothing can be done except watch out for him" by our police force I have a poor driving record myself and know the horror of taking a life, it goes on forever for all that know either the offender or family and friends of the deceased and the survivor as well.It really is horrifi, and we cant do anything to stop the drivers that show no care or concern fo there stupidity and/or lack of abillity? What the hell is the nationwide police force there for? Or is it just lazy police in Tasmania? I really dont know but I hope that someone does and they can do something about it for the good of all Australians. I'm sure this sort of thing happens in all states.
