Let's get this out in the open first ... I am technically challenged, and anything more than turning the power on and off at the power-point terrifies and confuses me. Our t.v. died, and wouldn't you know it, it happened just before the 2nd Ashes Cricket test match! I was beside myself, and all I could see were dollar signs in front of my eyes, thinking that I'd need to buy a new t.v. A relative recommended Paul (from Gemini Electronics), and he was able to come out within a couple of days of speaking to him. He checked the t.v. and said he would need to take it back to his work-shop to find out exactly what was wrong, and to then repair it. He disconnected the video, dvd & Foxtel from the t.v., and said he'd be in touch. We waved a sad goodbye to our t.v., wondering how we'd cope without it (and we managed surprisingly well, but that's another story). Within a week Paul was back at our door, with a big smile on his face, and the good news that he'd fixed our t.v., and did I want him to bring it in and connect it? I nearly kissed him, as another night of listening to the cricket on the radio was more than I could bear. In he came with the t.v., connected everything to it & it's running like new again. Happy didn't even begin to describe how I felt, especially when he said it was only $145. So if you're looking for someone to do repairs/installations for t.v.'s, dvd's, etc. then I'd thoroughly recommend Paul. He's a lovely bloke, doesn't charge like a wounded bull, and his work is first-class. Give him a call, you won't regret it.

Now first off, I admit that I found these guys through one of the "Deals" vouchers that are so popular these days, so what I paid ($49) was a definite bargain. But unlike other deals I've purchased, this business was actually good at what they do, and I would go back.

The salon is located on Winston Avenue at Clarence Gardens, so it's not far from the city, and parking is a breeze. My hairdresser, Jassi, was very friendly, and straight away offered a cup of tea or coffee.

After deciding on a colour (to hide my many grey hairs), I sat enjoying the background music, in a very comfortable chair, while reading a magazine. Then while removing the colour at the basin, my hair was gently washed, and I received a relaxing head massage. Jassi was chatty but not intrusive, and I loved the way she cut my hair and styled it. I certainly didn't walk out of there ready to run home and put my head under a shower, which has happened with other salons.

Their prices are very competitive, with Ladies Haircut and Wash/Blow Dry both starting at $25, Retouch Colour from $30, Full Colour from $38, and Half-head of Foils from $70. And they have some excellent Combo Specials including Foils, Full colour and Haircut from $90.

So if you're looking for a hairdresser to try, I'd recommend that you give "Streaks Ahead" a go. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

I took my mother there for a birthday dinner, after receiving a "two for one" card in the mail box. I believe they've only been open since October, 2012, and I admit I hadn't heard of them before receiving the promo card. But boy, what a find!

I'm glad that we went early (5.45 p.m.) because by 6.30 p.m. they were nearly full (seats 30). It's small and cosy, but not cramped, and the decor is simple but appropriate for a Japanese/Korean restaurant. Everything looked clean and tidy, and we could see through to where the chef's were cooking.

We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door, and shown to a table. The staff were friendly and happy to answer questions about the menu. Compared to many Asian restaurants, the menu isn't enormous, but it has a good variety of food, and it's very reasonably priced.

There are 7 entrees, a selection of sushi and sashimi, and salads. Then there's Tempura dishes, a "Bento Box" (like a tasting platter), Hot Stone Pots, Hot Plates, Donburi (Japanese rice bowl dish), and Noodles. And if you've got room, there's several choices of dessert.

We opted for the Maru Tempura (Prawn & seasonal vegetables), and the Chicken Katsu (Japanese-style crispy chicken schnitzel with salad). Very good choices as it turned out, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The serve of Tempura vegetables and 7 huge prawns was filling without being heavy, and the tempura batter was soooooo light and crispy, and not greasy at all. It was beautifully presented on a wooden boat-type plate, with a bowl of delicious dipping sauce (add soy sauce at your leisure). The Chicken Katsu was well-coated in a yummy crispy crumb mix, very tender and moist, without being over-cooked and dry, with a crisp and tasty salad on the side.

Unlike many similar restaurants, Maru wasn't horrendously noisy, and had a relaxing atmosphere, with a tempting mix of wonderful aromas emanating from the kitchen. They have a "special" each week-day for lunch, with several dollars off the regular cost of the choice of the day.

They also do take-away, and are open Mon-Fri 11.30 to 14.30, and 17.30 to 21.00, then 17.30 to 21.00 Saturdays (closed Sundays). As it's almost opposite Flinders Medical Centre, there's not a huge amount of parking, but we got lucky with a spot right out the front.

We'll definitely be going back there, because there were so many things on the menu that we agreed we like to try (deep fried Octopus balls, Japanese-style seafood pancake, Salmon & avocado salad, sushi & sushimi platter, the list goes on ...).

So if you're looking for a change to the average Chinese restaurant, try Maru for some of the tastiest Korean & Japanese food you'll get. You won't be disappointed.

This was seriously one of the best massages I have ever had. My sister and I were given the massages as birthday gifts from her partner, and what a gift! Therapist Renee came to my sister's house, set up the table with fluffy towels & comfy pillows, and away we went. Renee is a qualified remedial massage therapist, a member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists, and works with the Adelaide Thunderbirds Netball team and Port Adelaide Football Club (AFL). You can visit Renee at O'Halloran Hill if you prefer that to a home visit, and can choose from Remedial, Deep Tissue, Sports – pre and post, Cupping Therapy and Relaxation massage, and health fund rebates are available. You can also buy gift certificates to spoil that special someone in your life, or drop the hint to someone that you'd like one yourself! Renee tailors each massage to suit the person, looking at any medical problems, particular sore areas and likes/dislikes. And she's flexible with appointment times, working until early evening several days a week, and even works Saturdays, which is great for people who work during the week. I had a combination Remedial/Relaxation massage, and it was 60 minutes of bliss. Pressure was not too hard and not too soft, the coconut-based oil smelt lovely & didn't leave a yucky residue on my skin, and my arthritic & post-surgery aches and pains disappeared. I'll definitely be booking in with her on a regular basis ... it's a great way to keep on top of chronic pain, and a nice way to treat myself.

This review is for Wishart Jewellers, Glenelg SA

Wishart Jewellers were recommended to me, and I bless the day I found out about them. They are a Manufacturing Jeweller, and as well as making some stunning & unique jewellery, they do valuations and also repairs on-site (which means that work takes less time than other places that send work out-of-store ... small repairs can sometimes be done on the spot). Their charges are quite reasonable, the quality of their work is second-to-none, and their staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The shop is easily accessible on Jetty Road at Glenelg, with a variety of car-parking options nearby. They are completely trust-worthy, their customer service is exceptional, and they never "over-sell" services or products. I've had jewellery repaired by them, and a friend had some jewellery remodelled, and we were both delighted with the results. Seriously, I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

The range of food is great. Service was slow for a quiet week-day lunch, but quality and quantity of food was excellent. Honey Garlic King Prawns to-die-for, Roast Duck in Special Sauce amazing, and Salt & Pepper Chili Squid delicious. Their fried rice is one of the best I've ever had, as you didn't have to hunt for additions to the rice - there was plenty of egg, meat & veg mixed in. Prices were comparable to many other restaurants (approx $9 - 15 for main course), but the quality and quantity of food made the meal top value. We've been there several times before, and will definitely return. The Rice Hot-Pot has been recommended, and I can't wait to go back & try it.

This review is for Gardners Gardening And Lawn Mowing, Glenelg North SA

I've used Kev Gardner for lawn-mowing & yard maintenance for several years now. His prices are very reasonable, his work is first-class, and nothing is too much trouble for him. He even climbed up our orange tree to pick oranges that I couldn't reach! He's a down-to-earth guy, who takes pride in his work, and he's happy to work around times that suit his customers. He used to work for one of the larger franchises, but he's started his own business now, and I'm so glad, because I wouldn't use anyone else by choice. And you can't beat the appropriateness of his name ... Gardner!

Great little bakery with good quality products and reasonable prices. Their Tuna & Corn Pie is heavenly, with a cheesy crust on top. They have a great range of savoury & sweet items, especially their Beesting cakes. And I ordered a huge Chocolate Black Forest Cake for a friend's 50th birthday, and everyone came back for seconds, it was that good. It worked out to less than $2/person, which was good value.

I love Indian food, and these guys specialize in North Indian cuisine. You can dine-in or take-away, and the prices are very reasonable. I've only "dined in" once, but the service was fine. You can see everything being cooked & prepared, which is good. Their Vegetable Mixed Platter is enough for 2 people, and sooooo yummy. And if you have the Mixed Entree as well, with a couple of Naan breads, you could easily feed 3 people for $30. And their Mango Kulfi (Indian icecream) is just to die for.

This tiny little "take-away only" is not on a main road, and could easily get passed by. But it is well worth a visit, for its variety of dishes available, the taste and quality of the food, and the value for money. If we want take-away Chinese food, this is the only place I go to now. Closed Tuesdays.
