I am about to rent my property and need help with allowable deductions etc
A couple with a combined annual pretax income of approx. $330K (incl. rental income). Two investment properties. Two separate home offices (used up to 70 hours per week, hours logged). About 20 equity investments that yield a small amount of dividends. Two personal cars used for business (one on logbook method). I am a pension and I work 1 day a week in Optometrist store. I earn $405 per ftnt but also cover shifts for holidays or sick leave so my income fluctuates. My total casual income 23'24 was $12,244 yet virtually no tax was deducted. I now have to pay $1800 back tax. I need advice on what I need to pay in tax each fortnight, and whether it's worth working as I now realise that your income is added to your Pension and taxed on the full total. With the new pension (including Rental Assistance) being $1355 fortnight, and my wages probably around the same as the past year, the fortnightly tax table shows that I should be paying around $274 tax (Using the tax free threshold). On top of this, I lose 50c in the dollar for every dollar earned over $212 per fortnight. Based on that, it looks like my average fortnightly wage of $470 would lose $274 tax plus approx $129 off my fortnightly pension - around $403 off?? This sounds unbelievable to me but that is what the ATO told me when I called for advice. They suggested that I seek professional advice from a Tax Accountant and that is why I'm contacting you. It seems like I'm only working to entitle the Govt to recoup my pension in Taxes. I look forward to hearing from you to see if this is all correct and I indeed, I should even bother to continue my casual employment. I took on the job to help bolster my Pension. Kind regards
We are new to Australia having only been here since 17 September. We are looking for advice around taxation and deductions. We are a couple, both in full time employment, I have shares In New Zealand (only a couple of thousand dollars worth) and we are looking to purchase an investment property in Brisbane and want to understand the tax and accounting implications of doing it.
I last completed a return in 2018 and desperately need to rectify this fault.
