Kara Edwards OT

Director and Consultant Occupational Therapist

BaAppSc (OT Honours), Diploma of Dementia Care

As we age our physical and sensory abilities change and this can result in a mismatch between abilities and the home environment, increasing risk of falls. Occupational Therapy assessment from OT Focus can help to bridge this gap, with a focus on promoting independence and function. Some simple (or not so simple) changes to the home, assistive equipment or altering how you do things can all enable older people to stay at home safely and for longer.

OT Service Area

We service areas within the Sutherland Shire Council, Georges River Council, Bayside Council and Bankstown City Council (south).

Dementia Care

Cognitive changes or a diagnosis of dementia can impact independence with daily activities and safety at home. OT Focus can prescribe changes to the home environment or assistive technology that can help maintain independence for longer, enabling you to remain living at home.

Falls Prevention

Risk of falls increases with age and can result in significant injury or reduced function. The home is where we spend most of our time and there can be hazards within the home environment which can lead to falls. A home falls risk assessment with an OT can help to reduce the risk of falls and subsequent poor outcomes.
