    Common Epoxy Flooring FAQ's

You should have some kind of protective coating over bare concrete because exposed, untreated concrete is not durable. It wears very easily, it collects oil stains and creates dust. We have seen untreated concrete get so bad that the owner was not able to salvage the concrete and had to remove the concrete and pour a new slab. The reasons why you epoxy over concrete are simple: it looks amazing, it reflects light and brightens up the work area, it protects the concrete from wear, it’s very easy to clean and creates a cleaner, more professional work environment & appeal.

    • The floor won’t be ready to fully use until 7 days. (walkable within 48 hours)
    • During application a high VOC is present and very smelly, specialised masks are required.
    • Concrete level  imperfections may be more visible.

Epoxy floors are scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Epoxy floors are more suited to rubber traffic such as cars and forklifts. If scratch resistance is your main concern, then we suggest considering our “Commercial Semi-Polished Concrete” for epoxy flooring Perth.

Epoxy and Polyurethane are similar products but have slight differences. Epoxy products are more harder and rigid than Polyurethane, resistant to oil and battery acid.making them more suited to heavy duty operations such as warehouses, workshops and manufacturing. Epoxy products are usually cheaper than Polyurethane. Polyurethane flooring is more a more softer, flexible, more scratch resistant, self-levelling and more suited to the food & beverage industry.

This will depend on the amount of wear, traffic and heavy equipment you use. You should expect at least 3-5 years until re-coating is needed. In some industries you may get up to 7-10 years lifespan.

Yes, but we do not carry out Epoxy work in Kitchens and Bathrooms. We specialise in low build, larger scale areas.

Epoxy floors in Perth are water resistant. You can high pressure clean them but they are not designed to hold water. If you would like a more water resistant finish, we would recommend a Polyurethane product for epoxy flooring Perth.

You can think of epoxy flooring as a thick, chemically based paint, that’s much tougher than paint. It’s a much more expensive, complicated product to use and apply, which is why it’s mainly handled and applied by experienced professionals. Epoxy products are mainly rolled on or sprayed. There are also thicker epoxy products that are applied by pouring and troweling on.

There are 3 main factors to consider when it comes to the cost of your new epoxy floor. 1: The amount of concrete slab preparation we have to carry out. 2: The size of the floor (the more area the less cost per/m2). 3. The type of epoxy you want, like, do you want a fast return to service? UV Stable? Gloss finish? Anti Slip? Prices typically average from $27-$45p/m.

Typically, day 1-2 is grinding the floor using a Planetary Grinder to open up the pores of the concrete and remove surface contaminants.. Day 3-4 is vacuuming and patching the floor. Day 5-6 is applying 2 coats of epoxy by either roller or spray.

You can walk on the floor 48 hours after final coat. You can drive on the floor 5 days later, heavy equipment 7 days after the final coat. We also have 24hr quick return to service options available.

For areas where there is consistent water present on the ground, we recommend Dulux Non-slip aggregate additive. Under normal use, Epoxy floors in Perth are more slip resistant than tiles. We can use a higher profile nap or add various amounts of aggregate if you require more slip resistance. We have created samples for you to view in store to view the varying levels of non-slip.

No because of the high failure rate. Acid washing uses lots of water which puts moisture into the concrete (epoxy will not bind to moist concrete). People that use/recommend acid etch is because they don’t have grinding equipment/knowledge which is expensive and difficult to operate and transport.

Regular cleaning with a mop and light detergent is the best way to clean epoxy flooring in Perth.

Epoxy Flake flooring is quite popular for domestic use and DIYers because it is easy to apply and hides applicator errors. Because of its rough finish, difficulty cleaning and low durability against in  hash conditions, we do not recommend epoxy flake flooring for commercial applications.
