The Soltan Family STORY

Adam stepped into the hospitality business at age 15, wowed by the adrenaline buzz of people working together to create and share their love of food. He quickly realized that this is where he wanted to be. With a natural flair for cooking only found in his 16th year, he began his apprenticeship in Lancefield. This saw him learning under an Austrian chef, creating hearty Austrian dishes, with plenty of time spent perfecting dessert recipes. He showed such promise there were many a time when the restaurant was left in his capable hands. This is where he met Mel and wowed her with mouth-watering desserts to taste test.

He then moved on to a vineyard in Sunbury, learning more about fine dining and creating everything from scratch. House made sauces, pastas, fresh seafood, shucking oysters, using raw ingredients to create new menu each week. During his final year of his apprenticeship Adam and Mel welcomed their first child, Jacob and there was a need to move on to support the family.

Adams first head chef role was at Cope Williams Winery at the age of 19; running the kitchen team and guiding the front of house through weddings, conferences and Sunday lunches in cellar door. By then it was 2003 and Tyla was born. The next offer was for head chef at The Gamekeepers Secret, again leading the team focusing on a faster pace with many more challenges due to the larger space and team.

Throughout each role Adam took every opportunity to learn from those around him, with Mel by his side learning what she could about front of house and management. Whilst the opportunity for their own place came when he had a 4 year and 20-month-old, not the best timing for family life-they jumped at it. Full of excitement and drive!

Soltan Pepper is now a well-known name and people come from far and wide to join their Macedon Ranges family members at their favourite local haunt.

Soltan Pepper is a place for all, where everyone is welcome and their needs come first.

Eat Together

Our beautiful restaurant is housed in an early Australian building that is warm and has that comfortable, loved feeling you get when you set foot inside a friends home. This feeling carries through to the small friendly team of staff who cater unobtrusively to every need their guests have.

This place exists for them as much as for the locals who dine here.
