With over 25 years’ experience in the building industry, Top Shelf Building & Carpentry pride themselves on providing prompt, honest, friendly, professional and cost-effective service for all your building & carpentry needs. We specialise in home extensions & renovations, pergolas, deckings, verandahs and outdoor living area needs. We can also complete specialized outdoor timber work to suit your needs.

We're on the lookout for 1st or 2nd year Carpentry Apprentice to join the Top Shelf team.

Must be reliable, friendly, hardworking, keen to learn and have a passion for all things carpentry and building.

Join our family-owned & operated building business, where the majority of our work is based in the South East suburbs of Melbourne; occasionally you may be required to travel.

Drivers Licence is preferable.

It continues to blow our minds that when we attend

It continues to blow our minds that when we attend for a quote at the residence of an 'older person'...the number of stories we hear of them being ripped off, one way or another! From deposits given and the tradesperson never turning up and they can't contact them...to the "tradie" turning up and either does half the job, uses 'used materials' or does a really bad job of the works, which then require someone else to fix and finish! Oh the stories we have been told!

It disappoints us that this still continues to happen, time and time again!

We have a soft spot at Top Shelf for working with the older members of society (Liv always laughs at how much the older folk LOVE! Craig).

Please be rest assured that if you've given our details to an older person to contact or you are an older person looking for a trustworthy builder, "We'll look after you".

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN RENOVATING YOUR BATHROOM.

Renovating your bathroom can be exciting, however there are aspects that must be taken in consideration when doing so.

1. Layout - in most bathrooms, EVERY square metre counts. It is important to consider what are essential in your bathroom; shower, bath, toilet, basin, towel rail, vanity, mirror.

2. Use - how are you planning to use your bathroom? Will it be used by all family members? Will it be a sanctuary to relax and unwind?

3. Plumbing & Electrical - can you use the existing access to plumbing and electrical in the existing bathroom? Or if changing the whole layout, you'll need to consider where all the new access points will be.

4. Fixtures - what "look" are you going for? What style do you like? Fixtures and tap ware can make a design impact in your bathroom if chosen correctly. Not only do they need to be functional, they need to be durable and work well in the bathroom.

5. Tiles - tiles in a bathroom are not only on the floor, but also on the walls... and there are lots of options to choose from!

6. Storage - the amount of storage will depend on point #2. What do you need to store in your bathroom? What do you need easy access to? You want the space you're renovating to be functional!

7. Budget - like everything these days, how much money you have available will determine what you can choose for the above.

Taking the time to work through these considerations before you start renovating, will ensure you're building a space that you really want and that will function effectively in your home.

A little Friday "flashback" to a job we completed

A little Friday "flashback" to a job we completed prior to Christmas 2022. A new merbau decking with bench seat and in-built planter boxes.

It was important for us to accept this job as the family involved, needed the decking built prior to Christmas to be able to spend some much needed time and one last Christmas with a family member who was terminally unwell.

We are so thankful that we were able to complete this project on time for them. They were able to spend not only Christmas but some sunny, summer days with their loved one.

As happy as the customer was with the works, we were also very happy that during such a challenging time, we were able to be there for them and complete the works that they so very much wanted and needed.

Liv has a passion for organising and numbers & statistics. Liv works behind the scenes at TSBC with all our business branding, website development, social media content, accounting & bookkeeping. Occasionally she'll get a look in on the scheduling....

Liv has a background in business management and administration in various industries such as fitness, allied health, plumbing, medical & hospital and of course construction!

"FRESH FRIDAY" Whilst we were "closed" for Christ

"FRESH FRIDAY"

Whilst we were "closed" for Christmas/ New Year break... doesn't mean that I didn't put Craig to work on our own property.

I can't tell you the last time our deck was re-stained, so off Craig went, grabbed his high pressure cleaner and painting brush and got to work!
