The abyssinian was quite a favourite of mine for awhile. However, they seem to have a new chef or manager, and the food has gone downhill. Now it is just ok-good, not mind-blowing, and if you don't live in the area, it's hard to find the impetus to make the journey to eat there.

I do hope their quality gets better, and if anyone else eats there and finds it has gone back up, I hope they will let me know. For now, this one's off my regular list.

Thanks biancabowie, I might wait and hope some better reviews appear before trying them.

Went here with a Scoopon and they do well.
The service is very kindly, but limited in English, so you might need to say it a few times or change it to words they understand.
Got a lot of food with the deal. Happy with that. But I would very much like to try the raw beef, which was not available using the voucher.

Also... not sure about African beer. I didn't try it this time around, but I would very much like to. Perhaps next time.

The African beer sounds interesting, will have to try this restaurant with friends, sounds great. Thanks.

Lunch for two was tasty, well presented and reasonably priced. The service was friendly. The menu choices are vast and varied. I have never tried Ethiopian food before and was delighted with my experience. We tried the platter which had a combination of dishes ranging from quite spicy to very mild - all were extremely tasty and filling. It was an excellent way to experience new food.

It is a nice place for a small group of friends to catch up. I love the food there. Same with lots of people's opinion. The service was a bit slow. Overall, it is a good one to try.

You HAVE to ignore the service (which is very slow but given with a smile) if you want to taste this amazing food. My friend, who is from Sydney, and I went here for a catch up and it was glorious.

We got the big platter thing - it is a huge platter with the pancake-bread around the edges and four to six dishes heaped in the middle - and stuffed ourselves. I hate chili spiced food but there was enough of a selection that he, who loves chili, could eat some of the hotter things and I could stick to the food that had been seasoned with other stuff.

I am a sucker for a food adventure and this place definitely doesn't disappoint. You do eat with your hands, although I've been back and discovered courtesy of more fussy friends that you can definitely ask for cutlery with no embarrassment!

The great thing about Adelaide is that we do have some great little gems, it's just that you have to look for them and sometimes be willing to take a bus or a cab if you're going to drink.

I highly and completely recommend this place for the food!

Approximate cost: $20 for the platter or less for other mains

My family took me here for my birthday last year because I enjoy trying food from different places, and we all loved it! Eating with the injera (traditional Ethiopian bread - a bit like a pancake) instead of cutlery was good fun and the food was very, very tasty - beautifully spicy. There are a huge range of both meat and vegetarian dishes (and we tried some of both) and they are all very reasonably priced. There is a relaxed, laid back and friendly feel about the place. We'll have to go back soon! Apparently there is an an African Drummer there some Saturday nights (every second Saturday?) so I'd love to go along one of those Saturday nights.

Approximate cost: $13

I went to this restaurant tonight and was disappointed with the service for starters. No one served us for about 15mins, no water, no nothing. Eventually when they decided to come out from the kitchen, they took our orders. the food was good, but not as good as I have had elsewhere and price was reasonable. No ambiance, no music and service was poor. Definitely room for improvement and would not recommend. Go to Addis Ababa for that wow factor with the service to match!

Approximate cost: $12-15

It was brilliant. Very authentic, but you do eat with your hands and there's not really any cutlery. But there was more than enough food and if you go there, be sure to bring lots of friends.
Need to book for more than 3 people.

But booked once for a Sunday and then went, but they were closed. How could they get that wrong????!!! So was not happy. Otherwise, highly recommended

Approximate cost: $inexp-$mod
