A great place for food lovers. With a great variety of different vegetables and produce. Also absolutely love the bakery stalls there, can't remember the name of one of their stalls but they had amazing custard buns haha.

Yes I agree. A fabulous experience, even if you aren't buying anything. I like the Asian Food Hall, especially the Vegan stand at the western end. I always eat there, & get the hot soy milk + 3 choices of dishes deal. Lovely service too.

I love shopping here, as it's easy to get to with public transport all around. There are so many little businesses in this one place, so you have so much variety to choose from. Even if you don't need anything it's a great place to have breakfast and/or lunch. Everything is at a fair and reasonable price and above all everything is fresh.

A nice market - lots of fruit and veg to choose from and all those little things that you've never heard of but would love to try. Might be a place to avoid if you have nut allergies - I felt uneasy walking through with my daughter who is allergic to peanuts.

Really enjoy going to the market. The fruit, veg and meat/fish is fantastic quality and great prices and best of all FRESH! I've never had a bad experience here. The kids entertainment is also great and my daughter and I enjoy tasting all the goodies, especially the cheeses.

I love the market. here are lots of interesting stalls and lots of taste testing. The butchers and seafood places are great, especially Angelakis and the butcher in the corner is fantastic. I love going to The Asian grocery store where the lady weighs everything with her hands. The prices are great and you get lovely gourmet food. The food hall is great for eating at - especially the lahksa. Even if you don't want to buy anything it is a great place to walk around and see all the different things.

renaegeorg 08 Aug 2013

Wow, I haven't seen the woman who weighs with her hands. Pretty cool but I wonder how accurate her weighing is...

Fun place to visit with the kids on the weekend - especially the old lolly shop. Great vibe and lots of great little places to grab breakfast/brunch. Have to pick through the shops to find the ones with the freshest/cheapest fruit and veg, but we do love this place.

My favorite market to visit! Its big enough to find everything you want on a market - produce, butchers, delis, the small eateries, gourmet coffee plus small stalls of second and books, jewellery etc but small enough to be able to visit everything without feeling exhausted. This lovely market is still a market not a place for tourist nicknacks like so many others in Australia. Definitely not to be missed.

I recently visited Central Market, there was a violinist with a didgeredoo player....weird combination, but it was very interesting. Ok here is the deal, if you want the cheapest of all the shops, then I found that the Northern end closest to the Franklin Street Bus Terminal is the cheapest for
Seafood, fruit, books, lunch, and the Fantastic Butcher.
The meat is prime quality and so much more affordable than
closer to home. The fish is super fresh and the crowds are thronging to get the cheapest deal at the end of trading.

Approximate cost: $Topside is cheap, $9.90 approx

For all your fresh produce needs in one location, you cannot go past the Central Market. There is always a good range of fresh fruit and veg, and I especially love the unique range of seafood on offer. I love going there on a Friday night with the family, buying our fresh produce needs for the week and getting some unique speciality items from the wide range of Asian grocers, who definitely offer some competitive prices compared to the big chain supermarkets.

A busy place 24/7, but because it's in the middle of Adelaide and has pretty much everything you need to buy (grocery wise that is). A note for internationals though: you could get lost like my friend LOL

danton 22 Dec 2012

What a great place to get lost in though- Id be in heaven!

renaegeorg 08 Aug 2013

LOL - You don't need to be international to get lost. I live in Adelaide and used to work in the city and still get lost when I visit.

The Adelaide Central Markets are the best markets in Australia. I've been to Markets in Darwin, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, and although there are some gorgeous night markets and the Melbourne markets have some great produce, nothing beats the sensational atmosphere and value of the ACM!

There are so many great cafes and eateries, with two food halls coming off the china town mall attached, and there are two asian grocers as well.

Lucia's fine food is very expensive but has traditional home made pasta sauces and speciality products that you won't find anywhere else.

Barossa Fine Foods is utterly incredible too. If you don't buy your meat there, you're missing out! They are the same price as Coles and Woolworths (sometimes a bit more expensive than some of the other Butchers in the market) but the quality is more than double! I've never had a dinner party where I didn't serve some barossa fine foods meat. Organic chops, juicy t-bone, home made sausages and great economy cuts too.

You can walk around for an hour and come back with a bag full of veggies for one quarter of the price it would cost at Supermarket, or peruse the gifts, get a fantastic coffee, buy some gourmet cookies or cake, (or chocolates that make a great present) buy shoes, incense or booze, or just listen to the great musicians playing at two different locations in the Market on a Saturday.

The surrounding area has some great stores too, and I rarely leave on a Saturday without eating some Nana's bakery buns or Breadtop.

The Adelaide Central Markets are an experience not to be missed when visiting the state......and is a staple for residents of Adelaide.

There really is something to suit everyone and the quality is exceptional.
From fresh produce, coffee, lunch, dinner, chocolate, nuts, ice-cream, shoes, gifts, organic and health foods etc etc etc

I could go on and on it really has it all.

The atmosphere is amazing! Quite busy Friday nights and Saturday mornings but that adds to it for me (and my family). The rest of the week is quieter and easier to get around.
It is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Open late Friday nights.

Parking is easy, plentiful and cheap.

WOW! Shopping at the Adelaide Markets is always a treat. So much to choose from and some really good bargains. Fresh, local produce and a more authentic multi-cultural variety to choose from as compared to generic supermarkets and great selection of well priced organics. Atmosphere is great, especially when the place is busy and buzzing. You can't hate doing the shopping when you go here.

Great range of fruits, vegetables and other fresh produce. Easy parking on top of the market at a reasonable price. Love going to the market on the weekends but it does get a bit crowded but worth it. Great specials at the end of the day saturdays when everything its on special.

I think we have the best markets in Australia. Such a variety of food, a great place to take visitors. Also the second hand book shop is fantastic too!

What's there not to love about th Central Markets? There are plenty of shops so that your shopping trip will only take one round - fresh fruit, vegies, poultry and seafood! You can always take a break and enjoy the wide selection of foods (fro cafes to Japanese sushi!). It's all very conveniently located in one area and their are plenty of buses that will bring you there.

The Adelaide Central Market is a must when visiting Adelaide. Great quality and value for all types of produce, you cant really go wrong. For even better value take a visit on Saturday
afternoon at about 2pm when most produce is sold off at bargain prices.

These markets are an SA icon, gone are the days of the Greeks and the Italians who ran the stalls with their FRESH fruit veg and other continental stuff. Now you get cheap n nasty and the very yuppie n expensive tastes. Overall the people flock to this place and there seems to be a change of the original cultural backgrounds that once presided over this icon.
