First I must point out that the Cafe is a very different dining experience to the restaurant. The cafe is exactly that, a cafe. The type that if it was in a small arcade behind a few shops it would be an ok find. It is such a waste of a beautiful location to have such a basic cafe.

An example of this is they charge $7- for garlic bread which is 2 "bake at home rolls" with some very weak garlic butter on them. One would expect more.

Approximate cost: $22

Popped in on a weekend for lunch. Knew it would be busy but we could enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and fresh air. Stood inside the doorway for a few minutes, wondering whether you wait to be seated or seat yourselves. No staff in sight. Found a table and sat down anyway. Staff finally appear bustling around one table with six people bringing them bread, bottles of wine, taking further orders while we are sitting there waiting for a menu. They clear tables nearby and all the while we are trying to catch the eye of one of them to be served. After what must have been ten minutes a waitperson informs us that there will be a 45 minute wait and they will gladly give us a card to make a booking next time.

Our first trip to the scenic Awaba House on Lake Macquarie. Fantastic service, ambience (even with the rowdy wedding in the function room). Only gripe, wedding guests hogging the very tiny toilets, had to wait 10 minutes to wash hands as a couple of the wedding party were doing their hair!

Approximate cost: $60
