We went there with some kids in the school holidays it was pretty busy, but we managed to snaffle an outside table which was handy as it was probably more relaxed than inside. The lunch boxes took a while to make and were pretty pricey , but we knew that to begin with so that was fine. While quantities were small,it was quite reasonable for kids and the kids with us enjoyed the lovely presentation and the quite special and interesting food they could try. Staff were quite pleasant and friendly so maybe we were lucky that day. We had our own water bottles and since we were sitting outside somehow got away with using them which was handy. It is a lovely place to take kids for the gardens, sculptures and museum exhibits but probably a picnic is more realistic and leave this very nice cafe for a meeting with adult friends.

Somehow we slipped the kids and excitedly went to Heide for brunch. Its a beautiful spot. We opened up with some coffee which was fine (when is a coffee cold?) and ordered. Some poached eggs + a few accompaniments for the boss - mushrooms, tomato and some avocado. They forgot the bacon but thats not life threatening. Mine was the granola and when finished, I knocked over the soup of the day which was what my Mum would have called snow soup.
It would be fair to say we enjoyed all that - very tasty and well presented. Perhaps unlike other patrons, the floor staff were attentive despite a rather curious initial interruption.
We were then staggered that the bill topped more than $72. Rather disingenuously Cafe Vue prices the tomatos, the avocado, spinach and the mushrooms as four separate add ons - for $5 each. Stunningly a pair of eggs and a small side are worth $32.
We raised it with the staff who couldnt dismiss us fast enough. If you can imagine a snooty European voice telling us that 'sides cost at least $4 elsewhere and you should have ordered the breakfast', well thats a fair summary of our concerns being heard.
Sometimes things cost a bit and we should have left with a memory of some nice time alone, a great feed in a beautiful spot. It was spoiled though by the gouging (and dismissive staff), and left with that rather hollow feeling that we had been ripped off.

Heide is a beautiful setting and has so much potential for a wonderful restaurant. I don't think this is it. The lunchboxes are ridiculously tiny (recently price has risen from $15 to $18). For $18 would it be that hard to make the roll a tiny bit larger? It's all very cute providing youre not hungry. Coffee is very average, which is annoying as there's nowhere else to go on the premises. On weekends there's not much chance of getting in without a booking and a looong wait for coffee. Heide needs another cafe to cope with demand (and one that actually sells something substantial). If you're going with children, make sure you pack lunch!

Approximate cost: $18-30

Excellent food - you must try the duck eggs (if you like duck eggs, that is)! The service is also excellent - attentive, but not suffocating. The coffee is decent, not amazing, but if you're going to Cafe Vue you're not really going for the coffee, are you?

During the week it is relatively quiet - there's not much of a weekday lunch crowd, during the weekend, however, it does get packed.

I've eaten here a few times. The variety and pricing is very good, and during summer it is great to take one of their lunch boxes into the lovely grounds of Heide to enjoy (boxes are only around $15). Relaxed ambiance for families and groups.

Approximate cost: $15 - 20

There is some quite exotic food served here. I opted for a less exotic meal but my partner tried the eel but I tried the steamed fish. My fish was moist and soft and delicious. I cant comment on the eel but he tells me it was great

Approximate cost: $25
