For years I've suffered from dodgy mechanics, so I thought well WOMO can't get it wrong....IT DID. I went to Car Servicing & You due to the 5 star feedback- surely it can't be dodgy?
The car was overdue for a service and had a problem with the petrol being used at a ridiculously scary rate. It also would get a warning that the ABS system had a fault.
Explained all of this to the mechanic, expecting some bad news..... few hours later I get a phone call explaining all of these things needing to be done that add up to over $2000, if I get it all done, it'll be like a new car- If I get most of it done around $1800 it'll be safe/reliable etc. etc. My bf and I figured it needed things done and gave the guy the benefit of the doubt and proceeded to have the $1800 worth of work/servicing done to it- he also mentioned we'd be able to pick the car up that night even though there was so much to do...
Pick the car up and the mechanic warns us that he thinks they've fixed the ABS problem but maybe not- as soon as they turn the car on it starts notifying us of its fault- not fixed, but that's ok as it was a possibility.
After we drive away we occasionally start to notice this weird kind of rattling fan kind of sound from one side of the car.
The petrol starts being used at a more normal rate- tick.
2 weeks later driving the car- it starts to shake like REALLY BAD! My partner looks under the bonnet and notices that the new leads are sitting on the exhaust (the mechanic mentioned previously that the old leads were fried so they were replaced!) the car shakes and sparks fly. So we can't drive it. I call the mechanic he says bring it back and he'll have a look at it etc.
I take it in the next day (before I leave for a 2 week holiday) and leave it with him. Later on I get a call letting me know that the leads are melting on the exhaust and it's missing some protective cap, but it's a prior problem to when they changed the leads over so this time he will charge me only for the parts to replace the leads again and put some tape on them to hold them in place....something like $150 I swear he said. I was Like what, why? then he goes on again about the problem existing prior to when they fixed it---blah blah... So because they didn't do their job properly and figure out why the first set of leads were fried I have to pay again? I call my partner and explain the situation and he speaks to the mechanic and after some discussion and my partner saying how it is- that they can't charge us twice for the same job! the mechanic turns around straight away and says "I'll do ya a favour, because you spent so much money, I'll do it free of charge for ya." So then I go to pick it up and he says to me like he was going to all along "Free of charge for you!"---not like we didn't have to argue it. So that's my long story. Basically in my experience I wouldn't go back to be charged twice for them not doing their job in the first place- then trying to take advantage of a female who knows nothing about cars and can't stand confrontation. They deserve this review and this one star. I've had enough of mechanics!
P.S. 2 weeks later get back from my holiday AND MAYBE this is a coincidence, most likely....But maybe not.....The car starts overheating due to a burst hose. (found out from a mechanic friend- should've used them from the start.)
Approximate cost:
$1400
