I purchased a used Toyota Hiace Commuter van from a dealer under the name of Safari 4x4 at 56-60 Parramatta Rd, corner of George St. It had 192,000 km on it. At the time of purchase I asked that the bald spare tyre be replaced and we agreed that the dealer would keep the seats. I advised that I would travel back from Canberra in a week to take possession of the van. So I collected the van , drove from Sydney to Canberra; and the next day when I pulled up the back floor mat the "masonite" under the floor mat in the passenger area was dripping wet. After having driven only 1,218 km the ECU died. I was told by the repairer that the ECU under the driver's seat had been wet. Cost $1700. I let the rego lapse at this point because the van was being converted to an RV. Today I took the van for its rego/modification inspection and was told I had a bald tyre on the van. It was obvious that the dealer took the risk of me not checking ALL the tyres again and swapped the spare for the front drivers tyre. Total km travelled to this point 194,110. No way the one tyre was stripped bald in 2,110 km. I advised the dealer through their website contact point, after the ECU died, that hosing vehicles out was a very bad idea but never received any acknowledgment.
