If you like a more traditional type of experience then this is a place to try. The food is authentic and delicious with nice staff and prompt service.

I really like this place. Traditional Japanese for the Gold Coast. Huge selection and the food is always really fresh and well presented. This is a good place for a group to come and share platters.

Hadn't been to Donto Sapporo for a very long time (10 years ago, back when it was one of the few Japanese restaurants and was very good) and went recently again. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed.
The decor is old and tired, and looks like no money has been spent on the place in the last 10 years. Staff were friendly, but the young lady that served us couldnt recommend us anything on the menu as she couldnt speak any english (which is ok in itself as she got help, but added to the whole disappointment).
The sashimi we ordered was not as fresh as it should have been, and salmon was slightly frozen still. Yakitori was fine but nothing exceptional, as was sushi.

Overall, Donto Sapporo desperately needs a renovation as this isnt the late 90's anymore, and there are plenty of competitors out there that are much better.

Approximate cost: $20-30

We have been here 5 time now once for lunch. It has always had exceptional food and if you love oysters you just HAVE to try the oyster donto with wasabi.

Approximate cost: $20

This is an award winning Japanese restaurant on the Gold Coast and has always been a popular destination for many during lunch times for it's great value.
However, I have found on the last couple of occasions that the quality is slowly declining...
Dishes such as the chawamushi and spicy miso ramen were unacceptable (funny smells for the first and soup base was COLD for the latter).
Nevertheless, the chicken karaage has performed consistently over the years and would still rank as one of the best in the Gold Coast Japanese cuisine.
