I'm a platinum member with Fitness First so I can use which ever club location I choose to use. I came to this club for the first time and found the service to be very lacking. I felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. The reception staff need to spend less time talking about their daily calorie intake to one another and spend more time actually serving their clients. Oh and they should try a genuine smile every one in a while.

Been going to FF for ~ 1 year. I work in the same complex so it is easy to get a fitness session in during my lunch break. Facilities are great. Group Training helps motivate you to continue with any fitness plans you may have.
Special pricing available for some corporate members - companies in the QV centre, BHP, Sensis, GHD, Telstra etc
A bit of a push to join with a private trainer - but this can easily be rejected if you feel it is unnecessary.
Very little personal contact with trained instructors [other than before / after & during group classes]. Midday is peak time - sometimes difficult to get onto some equipment.

Approximate cost: $80 / month

It's a great gym if you're working or living in the city as it's close to everything, especially work but I found it's not as personalised as most smaller gyms because the staff are only there to help if you ask them. It's quite busy and sometimes can be difficult to get on certain machines, but the equipment is fantastic!!! and they also have an excellent range of dvds that you can borrow as part of your membership. Membership prices are quite reasonable and the change rooms/showers are always spotless!

Its a pretty good gym for people in the city, who want to workout during lunch breaks or non-working hours. The cardio room has bikes, treadmills and cross trainers. The weights rooms has a good variety as well. The TVs and music is just ok. They also have classes like pilates, pump and yoga. If you live near Lonsdale st, they might even have a corporate deal with your work, worth checking. The showers are neat and clean. Nothing jazzy or great, but not bad at all. Its worth every penny. Its 30.00 per fortnight and also annual fee and admission fee. Your can even do a temporary stop on payments when you are on holidays and not coming to work/city.

Approximate cost: $30

When I was working in the city I joined Fitness First because they had a gym right near my work and also one not too far from my home. I found it great to commit to get to a class and duck out at lunch time or straight after work to get some exercise in - especially in winter when it's easy to lose motivation by the time you get home. Working in the building I was able to get a corporate discount which made it pretty reasonable but normally its quite expensive as far as gyms go.

Approximate cost: $50 per month
