I took my family here for something fun and different to do. They had so much history there and were very knowledgable about past events, they also had a scavenger hunt for the kids to keep them interested all the way through. loved feeding the animals too.

Do the locals keep this place a secret or what? Hadn't really heard of it before but in my opinion it's better than many of its type. Really liked the old world feel of the place and there's so many things here on site to look at.

Favourites with the children was the wharf and boat area and the amazing statue of the Loch Ard Peacock. This sparked a whole lot of other interest in sea faring and coastal themes which they carried on after we got home. There's a Shipwreck trail children can follow.

Be prepared to walk around and it certainly does take a whole day to really appreciate everything. There were some people in costume to add to the authenticity and my daughter loved the lady with the spinning wheel who gave her some samples of fleece to take home. And the lighthouse on the hill is just stunning and some gorgeous photos are to be had.

Open Daily from 9am until 5pm (last admission 4pm).
Prices : Adult $16, Concession $12.50, Child $6.50,Family $39 and under 5 are free.

We hadn't heard of this and just followed signs to "Maritime Village" and though unsure, decided to enter and look around. The best "mistake" we ever made!
Others reviewers have had plenty of good things to say about the various attractions of the Maritime Village. They're all correct!
It is an ABSOLUTE MUST to see the laser show (held in the evenings). DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR WARRNAMBOOL without going to the laser show. You can buy a ticket that covers Dinner/Laser show and access to the village for the day. In the end we didn't do the dinner package because we found out that the restaurant was closed and that the restaurant across the street was to be used instead. We didn't like the menu options for the one across the street.
This was our only complaint: We were shown the menu for Pippas restaurant, we liked it. We came back later to book and discovered that Pippas wasn't open that evening and that they are using the restaurant over the street. This had a different menu with poor selection of options.

My husband and I really enjoyed our time at this maritime musuem. It shows the way of life of a seaport from many many years ago. Fascinating display of artifacts and information about them. It takes a fair amount of time to cover all the items on show. Really worth the visit

The maritime village is wonderful but you can't miss experiencing the award winning light show. This is the highlight of this place and I would strongly recommend attending this. Definately, one of the best light shows I have ever seen. It was brilliant, extremely entertaining and the duration of the show was perfect. Money well spent. Young and old will remember this experience.

We enjoyed a whole day here. I found it entertaining and very educational. There's so much to see and do it takes a while to go through it all so best to allow a full day visit. We really loved the interactive displays and the movies.

My family and I stayed in Warrnambool and went to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum.

We had a whole day full of adventure.

Experience first hand the perils of early sea travel as you explore The Gravesend Theatre, audiovisual presentations, interactive displays, and the relics & treasures recovered from various shipwrecks in the Great Circle Gallery, and of course the priceless Minton earthenware statue, the Loch Ard Peacock, Australia's most valuable shipwreck relic.

The Flagstaff Hill Precinct also contains the heritage listed Lady Bay Lighthouse complex and Warrnambool Garrison area. Some of the world's rarest and most significant cannons are contained in the Warrnambool Garrison area.

My children were fascinated with the old "Cannons" on display.

Certainly worth the visit!!

To be honest, hubby dragged me along, and I thought I was going to be a bit bored. But I really enjoyed it. Having a small child helped I think.

Its basically a small village set in the 1800s, with a couple of shops that sell goods (leadlighting, wood turning, spinning/knitting and old fashioned photography). Some of the stores are staffed with volunteers dressed in period clothing which adds to the feel. There is also a museum area that displays various recovered relics from sunken ships, including the famous Loch Ard peacock (a large ceramic sculpture that was miraculously found intact after a shipwreck). Which was the main reason we went there.

If you have children, this attraction turns from a slightly boring old fashioned village, to an exciting adventure! They give children a little booklet which contains clues for a treasure hunt, which leads them around the village. In some areas there are puzzles for them to do, some are just going from one place to the next (like at the Drs house it mentions not having any money on you, so the clue means to go to the bank), but at each location there is a themed stamp that they use to stamp the page in their book. Having something specific to do made the trip more exciting for us adults too, as it added just that little bit more to the experience. If you're an adult who likes a bit of childish fun - I'd ask for the "sea chest challenge" booklet ;)

They do have a night lazer show, but that is an extra cost, which we did not do.

Some of the buildings are modern, made to look old, however some of the decorations and the 2 boats they have (which you can board and have a look around) are actual boats which have a history you can read about. The sailmaker's building has real old ropes, so you get that oily ropey smell that really makes it feel authentic. The fact that you could touch the ropes, buckets, boats and other objects (in some areas) added to the effect.... not everything was roped off out of reach.

They happened to be filming a commercial the day we went, so they had more of the volunteers there than usual, so it was great to see all the people in their historic clothing walking around.

We were disappointed that you could not get access to the 2 small lighthouses they have, but overall, it was quite an enjoyable experience.

One thing to be aware of if you do have small children - you start off by watching a movie to get you into the mood... which is in a dark theater with simulated storms/lightning... which might be scary for young kids, and is quite long.... so unless you want to end up with a frightened child in your lap.... it might be good to try and prepare your children or hang out in the gift shop until the movie has ended and go straight through. (yes, speaking from experience here!)

Approximate cost: $15.95
