Nice hotel to stop at for a pint if down that way in the city. Nice outdoor area on hutt st. Prices are reasonable and the meals are decent too
Great location, easy parking, had the salmon which was cooked and presented well, portions weren't overly large but was enough, great service with choice of a few gluten free options on menu
Approximate cost: $23.90
A nice reminder to visit here again
Must try some time
I like the renovations. Makes it look all classy and elegant.
However, they're a bit pricey and the food isn't all that fabulous. But if you're here for the drinks and atmosphere, there's plenty of that.
Nothing awesome, but it's a safe option.

We went to the General Havelock on a Sunday. The food was great. Huge schnitzels, and nice sides. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food.
I'm not usually one to gripe - if you do a quick survey of my reviews, you'll find I prefer to review places I've loved, and give constructive criticism.
But the service at the Havelock was terrible. There was no effort to ensure that we were happy and comfortable, and we weren't told the kitchen would be closing before we finished our meals, so we couldn't order dessert.
In most places, the staff will let you know that the kitchen is closing shortly when you're ordering, so that you can order anything before the kitchen closes.
And really, how difficult is it to put a slice of cake on a plate?
It was clear that the staff just wanted to do their clean up and go home. They cleaned up around us, making us feel a bit weird for having come there in the first place.
I think the problem is, even with such delicious food, there are so many places around with great food AND great service.
Paying restaurant prices for pub food means that you expect restaurant quality service too.
Approximate cost: $23
Really good pub food. The bar and restaurant are really nice. Nothing to complain about. It's not really marketed towards family dining, never had a dissapointing meal here and there's a good selection of beers.
Great pub atmosphere & really good function room upstairs for any occassion. Would definitely stop by for one of their dinner deals, always great value!
I love going to the General Havelock! Always the best crowd of people - drinks are a little overpriced!
I went there on a Friday night for drinks with my girlfriends. Nice place to go and drink and dance, but does tend to get a little bit crowded. Found some of the security guards rude, but other than that, would recommend going there for drinks. The food was really nice too. It took a while to get our food once we had ordered but understand they were relatively busy.
Approximate cost: $30
A bit of a party pub, the 'Havy' is nonetheless relatively quiet at lunch time. The food is certainly of great quality, while the hotel itself combines modern tastes with a historic fascade. Good service also.
Well air conditioned front bar, indoor and undercover outdoor dining areas, friendly staff, fast service and a wide range of ice cold beers.
The meals were fresh and great value, the 600gm beef schnitzel (with Kahuna topping) was topped with fresh sliced ham and chunks of pineapple.
Approximate cost: $16
This is a great place for a meal or a quiet drink. I would avoid it when it gets too busy as sometimes the crowd can be a little enthusiastic :) They do fantastic private functions and are a good place to start a night out. Food is great and reasonable value. The venue itself is quite large and the decor is nice and well kept.
As an occasional work lunch hangout or a casual dinner place, I like this place. Their dining area out the back is nice. They've got these long wood benches for lots of people and it's fantastic!
Currently (May09), they've got this deal going for lunch and dinner Thursdays to Saturday. 2 parmiganas and 2 beers for $20. Brilliant feed for 2 people!
