Been a while. But it's the same ole goodness as always.
Still coming for their platter, which is now expensive-r... but still as delicious as always. Pork hock with the meat falling off the bone.... *drool*

Went with a group of six. We are fairly regular over the years. This was a quiz night with steak night. Four of us sent our meal back because the plates and chips were cold ( not appreciated on a winter night ... plates are very cold) the food stacked on top was hot enough but soon cooled. The plates came back still cold with changed hot food! Steaks this time were tough and could not be eaten easily. We talked to the waitress afterwards, about this, she said sorry for that. But what do they to keep their locals. What does it take to make plates hot in approximate price below is for six people.

Great location and good atmosphere . Food was delicious and servings were huge. Service was average, although they were very understanding when my brother noticed something wrong with his dish and they prompty swapped it for a new one which tasted much, much better. A good place to stop on a lovely day trip to the area.

Arrived just before midday today and were very glad we did, as within 20 minutes, the place was completely full! Lovely spring weather on a Sunday, in the tourist town of Hahndorf.

I chose the Pork Schnitzel, with mushroom gravy and the "famous" rhine potatoes (cost $19.00).

Not sure why they were famous, as they were just small 'baked in jacket potatoes', in a mustard dressing. Not sure if they were meant to be served cold but they were. Cold spud, with the hot schnitzel and gravy piled on top of them. Quite strange.

The schnitzel was very nice and the gravy was lovely but the cold spud really didn't do it for me. I ordered a side salad at an extra cost of $3.50 - 4 bits of cos lettuce, 2 cubes cucumber and 1 cherry tomato. Bit of a rip off!

My partner had the Pulled Pork Burger, with fries. ($18.00). He said it was very tasty and quite filling.

Being a German Pub, there was a great choice of beers. I'm not normally a beer drinker but I did enjoy a schooner of "Franzishaner Hefe Weissbier Hell", which is a wheat beer with flavours of Banana and Vanilla. Not too bitter and quite smooth.

The pub is well set out, atmosphere was good, the service was quite quick and the staff were very friendly. On the whole, the food was nice but cold spud under a hot schnitzel plus a $3.50 salad that hardly had anything in it, was disappointing.

After dinner at another local pub, my boyfriend and I went for a walk along the Main Street and I decided I was ready for dessert. We stopped here. So glad we did. I had a cherry parfait and it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! The restaurant inside was quite busy, so we decided just to sit out the front with our desserts and enjoy the beautiful evening. Lovely atmosphere. Could've easily sat here all night. Staff were friendly but seemed a bit rushed, which is fair enough as it was a busy place. Our desserts came out very quickly though which was unexpected but good of course. Would love to try some of their mains next time we are in the area.

My husband and I like to go there now and then for a meal and to try some german beer. Have found their meals to be massive compared to others nearby. We usually order some oysters as starters and then I like the schnitzel and my husband of course, the rump steak with all the trimmings. Have never been disappointed with our meals, only found service to be slow at times, but they really do get busy, especially on the weekends.

The food is excellent quality but the staff just dont pay attention, listen or repeat the order back to you. My brother and best mate ordered schooners of beer and ended up with the half litre glass, they had already started drinking from the glass so couldnt sent it back and my brother had ordered the giant hotdog but bought out the pork hock which got promptly sent back. When we went to pay I was concentrating so hard on the size of the beer and miss heard what was being charged, not that I could hear her clearly, but as soon as saw got charged for the pork and not the sausage, a difference of $8, I pointed it out. She remembered we had the wrong thing brought out and refunded the difference. Point is no matter how good the food, I'm not going back. WARNING - get them to repeat the order back to you and double check your receipt otherwise you could be paying for something you didnt order

Approximate cost: $20

Fortunately I haven't had that issue with them, hopefully I wont. Found their service to be slow but their food tasty.

Thanks for the advice

I like this place because it has a piano and sometimes has a piano player doing his stuff.
So while you're eating your food, there's a nice amount of background ambiance.
Similar food to the other Inn down the road, but they are reasonably competitive. Some of my friends prefer this one and others prefer the other. I'm not biased either way and I'll happily eat at this one.

Huge! That is the word I use when it comes to your meal size at the German Arms Hotel. This is the place I go to with mates when we are really hungry. Excellent, quality food with extremely large servings, so I you are going here for lunch, skip breakfast. Large menu to choose from, I have ordered the Burger a few times as well as the Giant Cheese Kransky, some friends have had the Giant Hot Dog, all meals were very satisfying and that is why we have been here a number of times now. My only issue has been the service, can be a bit slow but well worth waiting for. It seems to be very popular with tourists as well. Great place for a get together and an excellent meal. Have returned many times and will continue to do so. I highly recommend.

I booked in here for my husband's birthday lunch. We had a table of 8 of us. We were seated promptly in a lovely area with a view of the whole dining room. When the waitress came over to take our order, I asked if it might be easier for us to order and pay at the counter, as we were all paying seperately, she said no, it would be easier for us to order at the table, so we did. We all ordered a starter, a main and a dessert, with drinks at the same time. The starters came out in no time, and I must recommend the potato skins, they were excellent! Our mains however, took about 1hr to arrive at our table. We were all starving and were lucky that the 3 young children at our table weren't kicking up too much of a fuss. We ate our mains, agreeing that the food was ok, but nothing special. We then sat for about another hour for our table to be cleared and dessert to arrive, but this was only after we went up to the bar and prompted them. Also we had asked for some water about 20mins prior and had not seen hide nor hair of it!. By this stage we had been there for about 2.5hrs, a lot longer than we had planned and our drinks had long run dry. The desserts finally came out, we ate them quickly and went to pay our bill. The bill was not seperate as we had anticipated (and enquired at the start!). So we had a lot of mucking around to try and pay it all. This was a very average experience and I must say we probably won't be returning, as the service left a lot to be desired, especially considering the amount of money they were getting from our table alone.

I have been here a couple of times with my family and thought they were great. Maybe you caught them on an offff day. I can understand if you don't return, if I had experienced that, I definitely would not return.
