I engaged the services of Paint Right through Greys Army. The lead on the job was Hadi Mohamed. He was extremely honest and reliable. The team did a great job painting the exterior of my unit and fixing any damaged areas. I would highly recommend their aervices

I contacted Grey Army to request a quote from someone to fix our 2 rear deckings. I was asked if we need a permit, and I advised I was unsure as we weren't 100% sure what we were having done (whether to change a ramp to steps, etc, or just fix it to make it safe). I was sent who I later found out to be a handyman (though he never clearly stated this until work was completed). I advised him we wanted to replace all timber that needed to be replaced, and keep what could be re-used. We showed him the type of balustrade we wanted, and also took his advice and added some steps in place of the ramp we had on one decking. Upon completion, the balustrade was not only slightly different to what we wanted (we showed him a photo of how we were wanting it to look), it was installed poorly. I advised I will pay once I have had it inspected for compliance, and the handyman got nasty. Admittedly, I told him we found out we need a certificate of compliance towards the end of the work being completed, but he still knew before the completion, and advised that there was only one thing that may not pass. However, regardless of whether I advised him or not, he is still responsible to ensure everything is compliant.
When I got a building inspector out, there were 40 defects found, most of which was compliance, and the rest as poor workmanship. Among these defects were numerous timbers that are rotting and should have been replaced. The quote I received was only about $2000 less than the next lowest, even though the next quote would oil the deckings and remove all rubbish (we thought this explained the difference, as these were not part of his quote). Since the dispute began, I have spoken to Consumer Affairs and VBA, found out that laws have been broken, not just regulations, and I have followed the advice given to me by all parties. The tradesman and his manager both advise that they feel I am being unreasonable with my options (to fix the decking to make it compliant and look professional, which is what we were expecting all along, or demolish the decking and take back his wood, which would result in our deposit being refunded. This last one was a suggestion the tradie had also offered). However, he seems unwilling to actually decide on either of these options, and is only willing to fix the compliance issues, and leave the unprofessional work untouched. This is not what we were expecting when we hired him to do the work. The manager seems to not want to be involved anymore, even though Grey Army made the error of sending a handyman to do work that should have been for a carpenter or builder. The report also states that a plumber would have needed to sign off on the roofing for the decks, but this was never done. I have advised that one of the reasons I am disputing this is because our home insurance will not cover us for liability with the deckings if they are not compliant, and I shouldn't have to pay for work that does not look the way we had expected. His other offer was for us to pay $5000 of the remaining $9100, and put the remainder towards someone else fixing his mistakes, even though it will cost more than this. The report suggests the deckings will need to be mostly demolished and redone.

I also commented on a post on their Facebook (which was talking about their workers being professional and so forth) stating that it isn't correct since the one they sent out did an unprofessional job and broke laws, and they deleted my comment. When I messaged to ask why they deleted it, they said they reserve the right to delete comments that are based on lies, then blocked me so I couldn't reply. [Redacted generalisation comments] I will never again use Grey Army, [Redacted generalisation comments]

Terrible company, rude staff on the phones unable to get anyone to make contact. Never try again in the Mornington Peninsula area unless you get a new franchise owner in that area

Terrible terrible Grey Army company in Mornington, cannot get the franchise owner Neil Griffith to make contact, return calls or follow up on anything. How am I supposed to get a quote if you don't answer or won't return calls? Disgraceful, never ever bother again.

Engaged the services of Gabriel Plumbing Services via Grey Army, for major plumbing works at my residence. I found Damian and his team very professional/friendly and honest in their dealings. All works completed in time and as per their quote. Senior plumber (Rob Paterson), who completed most of the works, worked extremely hard under very difficult conditions without uttering any word of complain. I do not see any reason, why I would not engage their services in the future and commend them for their services and highly recommend them to others. This is the 2nd time I engaged via Grey Army, services offered by their team ( 1st involved a professional electrician, who completed a major work, involving my cooling system).

concreting- enlarging our driveway and a concrete slab as a base for a tool shed. The work was done professionally, the concreting was perfect, they were clean and tidy, kept me informed and were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. Couldn't ask for a better job.

I have used the Grey Army on a number of occasions for a variety of jobs. They are amazing. They always turn up on time, try and fit an appointment in with your life arrangements, know their stuff, clean up after themselves and are very reasonable on price. I always think of them first with any job, would recommend them to anyone, and say thank goodness for them.

we urgently needed a new washer and tap for the front garden as it was leaking badly.Damian turned up at the expected time and was very professional and told me my water meter didn't have a handle to turn it off and on.Thanks to Danial I
now have a new tap,and I rang my water supplier to arrange for a handle on my meter.
I thought $90.00 was reasonable .

We hired them to do mum's lawn and a complete garden clean up, and were so happy with the job.

It must be something about older gentlemen with years of experience behind them, because by the time they were done, mum's garden looked like a prizewinner!

Cannot speak highly enough of them!

The tiler that The Grey Army sent to me did a reasonable job. What I did'nt like and what was'nt explained to me was the hours he was going to work. He was working around his kids school run. He was arriving after 9am and leaving before 3pm. This made me a little anxious as I had other trades lined up. I was worried if he'd get the job done in time. He did, but took a day longer than was necessary.
The metal trim around my window edges which is quite visible is also shonky. The tiling and placement is very good though. A pleasant enough person, but poor communication. I have told the Grey Army and said they would talk to him. They said they do let some of their tradies work in with school schedules. This should be made clear.

I thought the Grey Army had a great reputation, so I felt comfortable booking the man they sent me to slash my yard (see Spot On Mowing & Gardening, Blackburn North). They charged $390, but they only did a small amount of the work. Grey Army is washing their hands, saying it isn't their responsibility. I'm deeply disappointed and out of pocket for a lot of money. If the Grey Army sends you somebody, get everything in writing from the subcontractor and take before and after photos, the same as if you contacted the workers direct. Being sent by the Grey Army obviously means nothing!

Having used other Grey Army services with excellent outcomes I decided to try the home maintenance section. To say I have been disappointed is an understatement and can only hope that it was an issue with the particular tradesman who I prefer not to name. To cut a long story short the job was never commenced after waiting for 5 months (weather related) we finally agreed on a mutual time to commence works, he arrived unprepared and the only tool he brought along with him was an attitude! He walked out on the job after I queried his approach to the $480 job (clean and oil two decks of which I was supplying the oil!). Thank you Mr P for leaving me high and dry two weeks out from an interstate relocation.

We purchased a new oven and decided to go through the Grey Army in Bendigo as we had heard great things about their services. The electrician came out to our house and began working on drilling a hole through our external brickwork to install the required 'isolated safety switch' for the oven and then proceeded to connect the oven. When he had finished he informed us that his initial hole that was drilled in the wall was in the wrong spot so he had to drill another hole - leaving us with a 3cm wide hole that we had to fill. Also, when the electrician gave us the invoice he told us that he wasn't going to leave until he received the payment of just under $900 and that he would only accept cash. I don't have that much cash lying around at home and didn't feel comfortable paying him cash anyway after his attitude. As I didn't have anyone around the house at the time I ended up calling my father who spoke to the electrician and made an arrangement to pay by cheque in the coming week. I had heard great things about the Grey Army but this experience really put me off using their services.

Definitely an option for you if you're after a cheaper way to get work done around the house. They are normally semi-retired men that have been in the trade a very long time.

I left an online request for a roof job on the Grey's Army website, within the day I received a call back from the tradesperson. He arrived right at the time he said he would. I had bought the roof tiles on his advise as he said this would be cheaper for me. He was very efficient, pleasant and experienced. He had to cut quite a few tiles. He did ask for an extension cord to use his tile cutter. My husband offered to clean up, so I can't say if he would have done a good job doing that. We had obtained another quote of more than double from another co.

Had lots of work done, by a large number of tradesmen. There is a variety of skill levels in these people. but most are very capable, some extremely good painters and carpenters, and a few handymen that were competent, one who was poor, but we have used several, and will use them again, have a large number of ongoing jobs, and have found some invaluable workers.

I had a blind put up in a bedroom. Just needed to be screwed in basically. It eventually got up, but the man needed quite a bit of help from me, and used all my tools. He was a bit patronizing to me and called me "girl". As a mother of 2 small children, I really wanted someone to come and do it all. It was a task I could have done myself, but wanted it done quickly and without using up all my rare spare moments.

When I purchased my house, the outside deck was completely rotted through, and, for fear of someone falling through it, we arranged to have a carpenter from the Grey Army to come out, have a good, give a quote, and, finally, rebuild my deck.
