Great for sharing! We got a few platters and dishes and shared between friends. I particularly love their dips!

Gotta admit, I was pretty disappointed here, after hearing really good things - perhaps it was just hyped up too much in my head! The food was fresh and lots of sharing options if you go in a group. Service was fairly slow, but they were busy when I went

Had a great time.
We had the trapezi banquet and they catered for me with gluten free options while my partner had the normal options. The waitress was friendly and helpful. Portion sizes were good, and we left very satisfied.
Overall a fantastic and memorable experience

Great place to go for a nice meal out. Although it is on the pricier side, we like to get the banquet. Lots of delicious Greek dishes to share and we always feel very full afterwards. The banquet menu changes regularly as I think they like to offer seasonal food.
It's a great place to go for birthdays or more casual special occasions :)

Great place and fun night out for a group birthday. Food was delicious and plentiful, staff were friendly and the mastiha was flowing. The banquet is the way to go and well worth it, saganaki, grilled haloumi, salad and chicken yummy.

Yes I agree... Great food but not always easy to get into.

$58 a head for the set banquet menu for a work dinner last night.
I arrived early before our table was ready and was sat at the bar, with a drinks menu and a quick chat with a very friendly, jovial waiter.
When we were seated at our table their were olives and water waiting.
Pita, meats, fish balls, dips and figs came out first, with some mains that came out next, which turned out not to be the mains, so by the time they came i was allready full, the food kept coming.
So did the service, our waters were quickly refilled, our drink orders taken and George Colombaros came to say hello and we all got a photo with him. Very nice meal, left full, and quite happy with the service. A nice night out had by all

We have been here 2 times now, and each time we are blown away.

The 1st time we came here we had the banquet at $58 per head. This may seem like a lot to some people, certainly because we were expecting to get very little food, however we were proved wrong really quickly.

The food did not stop coming! In the end we couldn't eat anymore and had to get them to take the food away. This doesn't sound very nice, but you need to understand that everything they bought out for us was so damn amazing that it made you feel terrible for not being able to finish it all. My favourite was the saganaki with figs and the chicken that they make so tender and juicey that it pains you to not be able to finish it all.

The best value for money I have experienced to date in a popular restaurant. Hats off to George Calombaris for this awesome restaurant that we cannot get enough of.

Tip: Book far ahead, or if there is only a couple of you, take your chances on the night, we did and we managed to get a nice spot at the bar watching all the chefs do their magic.

Love, love love this place!

If you like Greek food, you will LOVE Hellenic Republic. We always start with the Tarama - it's beautiful! I love going and getting a variety of different things and just sharing so you can try a little bit of everything. The desserts are yummy - must have the custard filled donuts - absolutely gorgeous.

I've tried all of George Calombaris' restaurants and this is by far my favourite. I try and go every few months. The food is traditional Greek style, with the dips, cheese and meats. There's always a wait to get in if you don't book, so call ahead of time you won't be disappointed!!!

My partner brought me and my family here for dinner and as we had been to the Press Club a few times we had high expectations for this one. I love love love Hellenic Republic so much more! The taramasalata was to die for. All of the food was superb and the atmosphere is much more relaxed. Dessert was out of this world! I want to be there right now and have the banquet other reviewers are talking about.

The service was second to none. We had the banquet and each course was described to us in detail. Great value for money. The banquet was a great way to try everything if you aren't familiar with Greek cuisine. We were not waiting long between courses. The dessert was divine. Only criticism was that we found the lamb very dry and the chicken a bit bland. But, perhaps a bad night????

The food and service here is exceptional which make it a great dining experience. I was with a group so we had a banquet and were never left waiting too long for food and all left more than satisfied. The price is very reasonable for the quality & quantity of food as well as the service. Highly recommend.

I adore greek food and found this restaurant to be up there with the best. The banquet was delicious allowing us to try many different dishes. Don't eat for a week (or at least the whole day) before dining here.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Hellenic Republic. We had the banquet so had a good variety of dishes to taste and they were all absolutely devine, especially the dessert! Im not a huge fan of Greek food but this was so delicious. One of the best restaurants I have been to in Melbourne and I will definitely be going back.

My beautiful husband took me to Hellenic Republic for dinner for my birthday knowing how much I love Masterchef and Greek Food. Hellenic Republic did not dissappoint. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful without being all over us. The food was AMAZING and talk about value for money. We only made it half way through the mains when we couldnt eat any more - shame because it was all soo beautiful. Best taramasalata I have ever had. When they found out it was my birthday a number of the staff came and sang (along with most of the resturant) happy birthday which was lovely. The atmosphere is relaxed and just greek enough to not be corny! George great job with this resturant and with the staff you have chosen. It was all Fabulous!

The food and service here is outstanding. The food is "rustic" Greek and if you select the trapezi menu (set menu at $57 per person), you will get more food than is humanly possible to eat! I've now been for breakfast, lunch and dinner! They will cater for alllergies - my son asked the waiter if something had nuts in it and without us having asked, they brought him individual dishes of either alternatives to dishes containing nuts or individual servings without nuts. It can be quite noisy, but it's so very warm and welcoming.

Food was great. Rustic yet delicious. Service was good and I loved the venue. Very homey. We had the banquet which I found to be too much food for the 2 of us. Left feeling very stuffed but also very satisfied. Would love to eat there again next time in Melbourne and just choose a few dishes from the menu. Would recommend.

I've been here quite a few times - first for my birthday where 15 of us had the banquet. They handle large groups really well and the price was quite good given the amount of food ($55 plus drinks). Have been back for a la carte dinner and breakfast and had wonderful food both times with a very reasonable bill on both occasions. The food tastes fantastic and the staff are really professional. Hot tip: you can get a half serve of the Loukamathes, which are heavenly but rich (and a whole serve is 8 doughnuts).

We went there for Someone's Birthday and paid $40 per head.
We were more than satisfied with the taste of the food and the quality!
The service was very good and they were almost constantly bringing more food to our table. We did only have a three hour limit to turn the tables but that was a bit of a pain having to leave early but not too bad as it was plenty of time to eat.

One word for this place - Wow.

It's a new favorite of mine. After being dissapointed with it's sister restaurant, I didn't set any expectations

but..........

The service and food here here were faultless. We ordered the second smallest banquet on the menu which included dips, mezze, seafood and meat and then coffee, fruit and desserts (just like Athens) and we rolled out of the place - doggy bags in hand. (Which, as a side note I need to say it was sooooo refreshing to see you could doggy bag goods instead of seeing good food go to waste straight into the bin)

We thought it was a little $$$ for Taverna food but once we stared eating, the value for money ended up being outstanding.

This is the sister restaurant of The Press Club, but it is more of a traditional Greek food and more of a funky, casual experience. Most of the menu is designed to be shared by the table.
Our waitress was amazing, she was Greek heritage and knew what everything on the menu was and could describe in detail and also give suggestions of what we might enjoy.

We got for starters, marinated olives, tzakitki dip with wood fired bread, saganaki cheese with caramelized spiced figs, and some plain rye bread they give to every table at the start. This was plenty for a starter for two.
For main I had grilled prawns, in which you can choose how many you like as it is $3.50 per prawn. They had a wonderful lemon/Herb marinade on them. My husband had the special lamb spit which comes with fantastic wood fired potato chips - very very good!
Everything is cooked on the grill and all very fresh tasting. There is heaps to choose from and good choices for vegetarians.
For dessert we shared a plate of the Greek donuts with honey, pistachios and cinnamon - definitely recommend! And one plate was enough for two.Yum. Also had a few glasses of wine and it came to about $60 each. We were so full at the end and were rolling out of there very happy.
