Hainanese Chicken Rice and also Garlic Prawns! Kotoraya have a fairly large menu, so it's a good place for family dinners. You'll find something for everyone. The restaurant is a bit dark and cruddy looking, but the quality of the food is consistently high.

Approximate cost: $30

It was too overated with people visiting Kotaraya for its Hainan Chicken Rice. Due to its Malaysia and Nyonya cuisines, my friend and I decided to try this place. It's packed before lunch time on weekend which i was expected- but to wait for a chicken rice on a plate for 1/2 hour or more- forget it!

Nothing that spectacular...i saw the dishes came out served on the table- I could easily make the Hainan Chic Rice myself now that I've mastered the recipe from home as in Penang.
There are plentiful of good M'sian restaurants to eat Chicken rice than this place.

Authentic Malaysian food with an extensive menu. Their hawker style noodles are pretty good and especially enjoy the roti channai with chicken curry. Friendly and quick service.

I'm from Malaysia, and i miss the local delicacies we have back home. This restaurant hits fairly close to the mark. There is a rendang there that is really very tasty, with soft fall apart beef. The calamari is really quite yummy. The list goes on as they have an extensive menu.

The proprietor or manager is this incredibly friendly chinese man who seems to know all his regulars and new guests but greets everyone with so much enthusiasm. Me and my housemates will always go there (please book as they are very busy over the weekends) and have a good dinner out once a month. Its byo as well which is great!

The staff was very patient while taking our order as we have some diet restriction. All the dishes tasted just like those 'tze char' stall back in Malaysia! Yam ring, assam fish, sizzling hot plate tofu! Simply awesome!

Last minute booking for a group of nearly 20 for a Sat night was welcome. The majority of our group has travelled Asia extensively and they rated Kotaraya as one of The Best in Victoria. The food was exquisite, service impeccable, good portions for good eaters and the delicate flavour of every and single dish (Flawless).
WORTH CHECKING OUT, YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Went to this restaurant expecting a lot due to all the reviews on WOMO but was a little disappointed. The service was good, food was ok but not fantastic and nothing to write home about. We didn't find the food that authentic.
They were accommodating and family friendly as (unlike a lot of Asian restaurants) seating was spacious.
Although they do put effort into service and was very forthcoming in recommending dishes, but we would not go back because food was just ok.

My colleagues and I are great fans of this joint. Never mind if they have moved further from our office, the longer drive is still worthwhile. My personal favourite here is Hainanese Chicken Rice but note that it is not available everyday.

Approximate cost: $10.00

My family and I love this place. This place serves authentic malaysian cuisine. Ask Alan for specials that are not on the menu. Try the garlic pork or sambal okra. Chicken rice there is good too (although only available Fri-Sun). Yum! Nice, casual dining experience!

I love Malaysian food. Their chicken rice is the best in Melbourne but they only serve it on weekends for lunch. Very limited. Almost every table you will see chicken rice when you go for lunch there on weekends. Very popular. For dinner, my favourite is sambal kang kong, assam fish and coconut butter king prawns. Lor bak is really good too. I think all the dishes are good over there.

Have been here plenty of times and it is always good food. Their chicken, however you have it, is usually fanatastic. Have great lunch deals that are very filling. Good portion size and great value. Is a large establishment, but service is generally good.

Service at Kotaraya has always been pleasant as is their food. Noodles are always good value and mains are typically portioned and priced like other restaurants. Its a nice, casual and relaxing place to dine..

The Hainanese chicken is extremely popular here. The reason why many customers flock into their store! I must say that their chicken whether Hainanese or not is fantastic. The food here is generally inexpensive, but is a must visit!

The chicken in this restaurant is the selling point. For it's Singaporean style Hai Nan Chicken, it uses free range chickens that are only available to order on specific days (I believe it's only Saturdays). Therefore, their chicken are extra tender and nice. A place to definitely come to any chicken lovers.
