Review; Macs Automotive Repairs on Marion Rd

Where do I start? BE WARNED! Is about the best way I can put it. But make your own decision and choices. My car was sent to these guys after the transmission was taken out for inspection and a coolant leak on the rear of the engine was noticed. My experience with these guys at Macs autos on Marion Road would have to be the worst example of a business services I have experienced in my 56 years, in the way they have dealt with the problems that suddenly appeared and then destroyed the engine in my car after it went to their workshop. The car went in for a simple coolant gasket replacement quoted at $300 - $400. I was then contacted and told it would cost $2800 as they found more and more leaks, it then cost $4121. I was sent a text message with a photo of the handwritten invoice at 5pm on a Monday afternoon and was then given a hostile phone call at 10 AM on Tuesday as to why I hadn’t been in to pay the bill, this escalated to two more rude, aggressive and what I would describe as bullying calls to pay the bill all whilst they still had the car. I went in and paid them, and the car was then returned to the transmission specialist that first noticed the leaks.
Long story short once the transmission was replaced in the car and all reconnected, the engine Hydraulic'd upon starting, destroying it beyond cost effective repair. Macs Auto denies that they have done anything wrong, but will not say what went wrong, instead claiming they do not know what happened after spending three days looking at it and talking to over 100 people about it?? They were the only ones to work on the car’s engine. So please ask yourself, would you trust someone with your car that claims they don’t know what happened when something goes wrong? if true? questions would have to be asked about their experience and knowledge with certain vehicles? or are they just telling me that to cover up something that they were fully aware off all the time? This saga has played out over 9 months and has cost me thousands of dollars plus the loss of my car as it was written of by their insurance for around half the value of what I had it insured for. An independent report done by their insurance company stated that the engine was over pressurised during testing causing failure. In a catch 22 situation to claim any of the repair money back, I will have to lodge a civic lawsuit. This experience has been far from professional, far from customer oriented, but has been, nothing but money driven to get money out of my hand into theirs. Things in life will and do go wrong sometimes, but its things like honesty, communication, ownership of mistakes, human decency and respect which define us all as to the type of people we stand up to be throughout life, all qualities which I have found to be lacking when dealing with this business and its people. But as I said at the start, make your own decision, I have not written this review to influence anybody decision, just to make people aware of my dealings with Trevor and Todd of Macs Automotive repairs on Marion Road.SA, so that, you can then make a more informed choice of what you wish to do and the type of people who you wish to deal with.

We took our older car in for a service, since it hasn't been serviced for a while. They changed the oil and a couple lights, but kept it to an inspection for the most part. They gave us a list of all the repairs we will need, and told us what order they'd recommend. They gave us personal recommendations, and could just have easy conversation with them about our situation - i.e. whether it would be worth it to do the repairs or just get a different car. They are laid back, but also seem professional. Were very straight forward and said we would probably be alright to drive on it for another few months before doing repairs, so I really appreciated that they weren't trying to strong arm us into getting the repairs immediately, but just gave us an honest opinion.
