This rating applies to the deli & fresh food area of the supermarket.

Now here is a supermarket deli that knows what a customer wants. When "Just Deli" at Blackburn Nth is closed, the Maxi deli is a very good alternative. They only cut small quantities of their meats at a time and often cover them with gladwrap to stop them drying out if they are a thin cut. Why other supermarkets don't use the "Maxi Method" to keep things from drying out I'll never know. A simple way of stopping food looking and tasting like it has been there for two weeks!

The staff are also efficient and as you would expect from a supermarket deli, there to get the job done with a smile but no chit chat.

The added bonus is the Philippa's bread range, coffee bean range and the eclectic mix of pre-baked pies, arancini (rice balls) and a fair range of pasta and pasta sauces nearby. Their fruit & vegie section is also reasonable for a supermarket and they stock a fair range but in small quantities. However it always seems like there is enough there to choose from (are they also restocking their vegies frequently?). Maxi is also one of the few supermarkets around that are still serving loose leaf lettuce, rocket and spinach instead of the pre packaged slush that coles and safeway are serving up.

Well done Maxi, for maintaining some integrity in the supermarket world!

I find that this store stocks a large number of products that aren't readily available at nearby Safeway and Coles stores (including lots of low-sodium products which can be hard to find). Their stock rotation is not as good as I would like (so it pays to check use-by dates on perishables), but their meat is always fresh and usually good value. I don't get their catalogue so I only find out about specials when I go to the store. Whilst they have some basic no-name products they aren't over-run with multiple levels of "own brand" products like You'll Love Coles, Coles Smart Buys, Woolworths Select etc... You don't have to pay to use the car park nor do you need a gold coin for the trolleys (unlike Box Hill Centro...) They also provide trolleys with baby capsules attached which is handy if shoping with and you don't want to push a trolley and a pram.

I love the deli at Maxi, their meats are very cheap and always fresh. I find you never have to wait long to put your groceries through the checkout and if they are busy they will try and get another register opened quick. Their staff are very friendly. One annoyance is they dont do rainchecks anymore on sale items.

This is one of the few shops in the Eastern suburbs where you can buy Jasper organic/Fair Trade coffee as loose beans. There are also other unusual lines stocked there. Huge health food section with heaps of Orgran products. Really friendly service too.
