Whils the aquarium is pricy - it's pretty amazing. At the time we went they had penguins there, I thought they were fake! YOu get to see them so closely and there was such a variety. This is a really fun place. it's on a par with Sydney Aquarium. It's a must see when you visit Melbourne, esp if you have children!

Approximate cost: $30

totally agree with you about price! $35 for an adult entry is very expensive in my opinion. Last time I went we used our entertainment book voucher which was buy one get one free entry, so that was much more affordable :)

stock standard tourist spot in the city, close to public transport and crown for food after sightseeing, lots of things to see and do, went here for a formal dinner once, was pretty sweet!

Great fun day with all the family and especially entertaining for kids or overseas visitors. Quality throughout but I do wish it was cheaper. Plenty of photo ops too.

I could watch the penguins all day, going back again tonight it's a great few hours. The two rides are great too, sit in a chair and watch the big screen as your chair moves with the screen. The shark tube is eerie, having them all around you is so surreal but a great experience. Huge murray cod near the entrance, some star fish for the kids to pick up too, and a great venue for a wedding ceremony or reception!

The penguin display is great & the kids will love it. A little on the pricey side i thought for the time you are there. Having said that it was enjoyable & i particularly liked the big room where sharks & stingrays swim around you & overhead, & you can sit & just watch them swimming by.

Took the family to the Aquarium today. Had great time wondering around exhibitions that were on display. Penguins were a highlight for the kids. They also enjoyed the sharks. They had a new promo, as each group walked into the aquarium the staff took photo of the group. At the end of the day for a $35 cost you can purchase the photo which is beautifully presented in a album, with more information on the displays, 3 copies of your photo as well as a pass to access your photo online in a digital format.

Approximate cost: $100

Recently visited the aquarium & was a little disappointed.
There were no staff around ( I had a q about exiting via a elevator) and the cafe was closed & we were expecting to get a late lunch there.
Much smaller than I had thought & prices were quite steep.

Approximate cost: $35

When we went to the aquarium a few years back I didnt think it was worth the price we paid to get in. My daughter liked looking at the stingrays and loved watching the seahorses. It only took us an hour to go through the whole aquarium...we were expecting to be there the whole day from what we had heard from other people that had gone there. So was a bit disappointed. It works out very costly for a family to go and i especially didnt like the fact you had to go through the shop to get out of the aquarium. I did find the staff extremely helpful and very friendly.

Like the zoo, an excursion out to the aquarium is great even as an experience. I personally found the shark tank to be the most impressive exhibit, it would be a good idea to install more seating there given the number of people that stall to look in the area. The line up to actually get in was a bit long though, probably due to the complimentary photo services that they try to sell off at the end as memoirs, it would be better if they label this as optional though to save on queuing times. All in all though, a great family experience and educational and fun for all ages but kids in particular.

A visit to the aquarium is not to be missed on a trip to Melbourne. Fun and enjoyable for the whole family.
We love exploring all the different sections and it takes us a good few hours to get around.
Pretty pricey but I do feel it's worth it.

Easy to get to from train then tram.
bit of a line up generally to purchase tickets but the penguins make you smile when you finally get in.

Make sure you have heaps of time and I take snacks as it is expensive to eat there.

Some reasonably priced items in the gift shop (which you have to walk through to get out) if you're looking for a momento of your visit.

All in all a great family day out!
