Kathy our Laneways tour guide was passionate and generous with her time. Chocolate, coffee at Lindt & then lunch at Little Mule Café all delightful. History of Melbourne very interesting and fun, especially the story of the etched mirror in Hopetoun Café. Thanks Kathy you have left me and Wendy with some delightful memories of Melbourne. Wanda

I found Jerome extremely knowledgeable, polite and easy listening on the laneways tour. It's like having insider information. But I'm not certain that an overseas visitor would be as interested in the details (for instance that Elizabeth Street was once a creek, or that the painting Chloe inside Young and Jackson Hotel may have been the last thing an enlisting man saw before he left for war, or indeed the history of the missing mace of Parliament). It's Jerome's contention that the details make Melbourne the interesting city it is. I agree, as we don't have the ‘larger' tourist attractions. I'd encourage Melburnians to take this tour because Jerome brings a great deal of insight into the history of our laneways and their meaning for contemporaneous businesses and their everyday patrons. (His word of mouth I feel is a great marketing tool for the businesses that are incorporated in the tour.) As someone from Melbourne I know of the laneways' value, colour, and life and so I wanted to introduce these aspects to my friend who was visiting from overseas but what would incite an overseas visitor to seek out this particular tour on her own? Overall the tour is great value for money and the small tasting of macaron at Lindt's chocolate café and the lunch were also nice touches.

Approximate cost: $49

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Our tour commentary is geared towards the customers, not simply reciting a script. Therefore when talking about Y&J we noted probably via a comment that it was likely it was good to talk about it. This sort of tailored commentary is not known to many so you assumed it would be the same to all. Great you agree with our interpretation of the laneways and you are absolutely right that Melburnians should take this tour to also find out more about our great city. Bye Jerome

I recently went on a Laneways tour with my mum. We got off to a rocky start, as the email confirmation we received said the guide would be either wearing yellow, or have a yellow clipboard, and be at the Melbourne Visitor's Centre. We spent ages walking around looking for them. In the end, we found them after having to call their phone. They had a bag on that had a tiny A5 sized 'Meltours' logo. When we and the others in the group mentioned the difficulty in finding the guide, he became very defensive and rude.
That said, we very much enjoyed the tour. We saw some very interesting street art, and also some being sprayed! Afternoon tea afterwards was ok, nothing special.

Hi curlycee, the tour confirmation if I am to assume that you booked in February said 'The tour guide will be wearing a yellow MELTOURS bag. There are pictures attached of the MVC that will help.' Simply pointing out that there was no mention of clipboard or anything else the guide is assumed to wear was not in the email confirmation so was not being rude at all. We are sorry you had trouble finding us but 1000s of others have successfully based on the same confirmation wording. The lettering is 5cm high, black and bold and larger that what other guides use and the guide is usually at least 10mins at the start point with the bag in front looking for customers. I am not sure what else I could have done in your case but we take all feedback on board to try and ensure 100% of customers can follow our instructions. Bye, Jerome

I cannot believe you are still being defensive about this! We, and THREE other pairs of people pointed out on the day that we all had difficulty finding you, and you launched into a tirade about how the instructions were clear, and we were now late and behind schedule. We departed late because people could not find you.
I booked in May 2011, please note, copied and pasted from my booking confirmation:
The tour will start at 2pm 7th May outside the Melbourne Visitors Centre, (MVC) cnr Swanston St and Flinders St Melbourne near the Guided Tour blue sign. The tour guide will be wearing a yellow shirt or have a yellow clipboard. There are pictures attached of the MVC that will help.

You will see that it specifically mentions a yellow shirt or yellow clipboard, neither of which you were wearing. You had a black bag on with small lettering, which was not easily visible, and besides not what any of us had been told to look for.
Your way of dealing with feedback, both on the day and now in this forum leaves a lot to be desired.
