I was there for a while, the teachers (mostly) are experienced and very capable.

This review is mainly higher education, but the diplomas, certificates etc are also very worthy, bearing in mind that you will pay for what you get - so don't expect it to be a cheap option.

In their higher education areas, there is some great applied programs that really get students motivated.

Great mix of international and domestic students too, very good library, resources recreation.

Some campuses are better than other, Fairfield is beautiful, Epping and Preston are very functional.

My tip is that if you are chasing a degree that is focused on applied knowledge and experiential learning with small classes then this is your place.

Some programs are stand out - eg, music performance and Veterinary Nursing.

If you are highly academic and want to achieve then Melbourne and Monash is better but if you are motivated, like a stimulating environment AND keen to learn valued skills for your career then give NMIT a go!

BTW - it is now called Melbourne Polytechnic

Approximate cost: $18k

I took a short 8 weeks (32 hours total) course on welding. All materials were provided though I bought my own auto darkening helmet at an additional $100. The whole course was serious fun, I learnt heaps and almost no homework:) This couse is dearer than other similar courses but you get twice as many significant hours to practice it all.

Approximate cost: $500
