My last visit to Nobu, I was actually quite disappointed. I was ordering a dish on their menu for a child dining with us who is very fussy. It was a Wagyu beef dish, it was advertised as a price per 50 grams, this is a deceptive way of advertising the price as no-one orders a Wagyu in this quantity. The way it was worded was confusing. When I got the bill, it ended up being way more than expected due to the Wagyu, I pointed this out to our waiter and the guy just said he said it was an expensive dish at the time of ordering. He did not actually point out that price was per 50 grams and the min order was 150 grams. So that dish ended up being 3X the price I thought I was paying.
Getting no where I paid the bill and left, later emailing them about it. I received no response to my email, which I followed up with another email and again, no response.
Very disappointing and I am unlikely to return again which is a shame because I have had a number of lovely dining experiences here.

Cocktails here and a real stand out! I was very impressed and wanted to have multiple. <3 Ask the waitress for help when ordering as the menu can be a little hard to understand unless you eat Japanese a lot

The meals were just amazing. The atmosphere was fabulous and the presentation of the meals was flawless. It was very busy but our meals arrived in a timely manner. It was very expensive but the portion sizes so generous I couldn't finish my meal. For a special occasion it's worth the splurge.

Been to Nobu a hand full of times now and have loved it every time. The theme inside is great and a booth downstairs is a must. Not really too pricey for the location/name/quality of food ect ect. Saki selection is fun and a good one to try with friends

I recently went and had a very fun evening. Went on a thursday, which is the day they have set aside to play with peruvian flavours alongside contemporary japanese. Serving a range of tapas and cocktails, such as marinated scallop lollipops, warm potato salad with Aji Amarilo and crispy shallots, a range of interesting cocktails including piscos of varying flavours ie. rose, plum etc.
Everything we tried was really good, beyond being new, interesting and pretty to behold. And good value too $35 for a (3) cocktail flight, and tapas ranging $12-30. The portions were reasonable and not stingy.

Great place. With a lovely atmosphere and amazing but quite pricey food. Probably for a special occasion and make sure you book ahead of time and dress up nicely.
There are different set menus or you can order ala carte the sashimi is top quality and of different fish you might not find at your regular japanese restaurant.
Portions are very small though.
Coffee and desserts are also worth ordering.
Service can be quite bad at times though.
They won't serve you in the bar after a certain time and can be quite rude about it.
Otherwise it's a wonderful place to dine with delicious food, great atmosphere.
I would love to come back to Nobu soon.

Excellent service and menu options- have dined for lunch each time. The wagyu sizzling plate is delicious, remove the meat if you like it rare. The prices are high which limits my visits.

Friday night drinks are great - menu samples available.

I met a group of girlfriends at Nobu for a Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago. We drank warm sake and ate beautiful, delicate, fresh and flavorsome food. The scallops were a stand out. Dessert was also amazing. We had the lunch special, which was actually quite good value.

Wonderful decor and atmosphere in this restaurant, however the food was disappointing. No dishes stood out and they were all quite boring and bland. Very expensive for what it was.

I think it is over priced. I ordered the grilled salmon with some sauce, etc. the fish didn't taste like it was marinated. serving portion is small. a bit disappointed. good ambiance but they can do better for the price they charge

I came here for an anniversary dinner with my partner. We were told about how the food was meant to be shared here so we ordered quite a number of meals to share. When the plates arrived we were shocked, we knew we had to share but the amount we got per meal was not really enough to share. We ordered a plate of prawns which cost about $35 and got only 4 prawns. We had about 6 meals all priced around the same. The food was great but for the price and quantity given, it was not really worth it. We left both still feeling hungry and went and got take out to fulfill our hunger which was just not satisfied at Nobu.

Absolutely love the food here. Have to admit it is a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. We go to the bar upstairs about an hour before the time our table is booked in the restaurant downstairs. This gives you time to enjoy a drink or two in the more brighter lit area of Nobu and have a few dishes from their taps menu which are cheaper in the bar than the restaurant. Have the Miso cod, king crab legs, pork belly in the bar, then order the rest downstairs. And do try the Green tea mousse....yum. It is always a pleasant experience dining here, the staff is very polite and proffessional.

Ok, so it's really expensive, but the experience is amazing. The food is beyond delicious and so fresh. The wait staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and really help with the menu!! The wine list is extensive and expensive, as is the food menu, but let's face it, you don't go to a world class restaurant in Southbank and expect it to be cheap. I would happily go back and pay whatever they like!! It was one of the best meals I've ever had!!!!

Nobu brings up names such as Robert Di Niro and Nobu Matsuhisa in the one sentence. Strange but true. This place is reknown for great food, atmosphere and avant garde Japanese with tradtional styles rolled into one. One thing's for sure is that the price in this place matches the quality - order anything and you can be sure that it's the best of the best. If you ever wondered what it would be like to be on the panel of tasters in Iron Chef or master chef, visit Nobu. We went with a group of 16 (and you can imagine the bill aftewards - enough for someone to fly to Tokyo...!!) and no one was dissapointed and everyone was talking about the food for weeks afterwards. Sushi and Sahimi was the freshest I've tasted. Soft Shell Crab, tempura rolls, duck, waguy gyoza were all superb. Serivce was a bit slow and sometimes difficult to catch a waiter - well it was Saturday night! Overall, great food, reasonable service, and food that matches the price - no complaints! Serving sizes are not particularly large, allowing you to try a range of dishes, however that means the bill does go up. Wine and drinks list is extensive and can be tailored to the dishes ordered.

This is my favourite restaurant EVER! I have been to a couple of them throughout the world, but i still think the Melbourne version is the best. We have such fresh produce, and given the Nobu twist, everything tastes amazing. I can't rate this restaurant highly enough. I would eat there every day if i could afford it!

I absolutely love this place. Its very expensive and can be a little crowded but in my opinion the service and the quality of food is fantastic.

Thy the banquet kind of option. And you can just tell them to exclude/include parts of it. Eventually 10+ dishes come out that are amazing and let you try a wide variety.

Definitely recommended if you can spare a couple hundred.

I brought my wife to Nobu during our 5 years wedding anniversary at Southbank few months ago. First of all, I tasted the hot sake ($28 per serve) and its the best sake I've ever tasted in Melbourne. It is as smooth as silk and after second serve, I can really feel its strength !! The food is amazing. We first tried their famous grilled Cod fish ($30 +). Its a small serve but I can assure you, you will never forget the amazing taste of it. One of the best ever tasted !! We later had a plate of sushi and two other main course. The food and environment is just too perfect but it come with a cost. It cost us > $200 ++ for the dinner, but its all worth it.

Approximate cost: $>50 pp (excl. sake)

My partner brought me to Nobu for my birthday this year, knowing that I was especially excited about it as I was taken to Nobu many years ago as a teenager in New York. We both had the omokase menu, the food was lovely, just as I remembered, but the atmosphere in the downstairs dining room where we seated was a little noisy and 'club-y' - it's a big room and quite echo-y. The service was very competent and we enjoyed the evening thoroughly.

EDIT: I came back for Christmas dinner 2010 with friends visiting from overseas, and the standards are still being upheld. We treated ourselves to the omokase again, and all of it was so delicious. We were obviously enjoying ourselves so much that a couple recently seated next to our table leant over to ask what we were eating!

Alot of hype about Nobu so decided to try it out. Normally I am used to ordering an entree and then the main meal. Instead everything arrived out all at once. I must say food was really nice, lovely decor inside, but would I rave about it?? No!!but others would beg to differ. Been a vegetarian can be difficult as there is not always a great selection

You have waiters dedicated to your table and who will spend time looking through the menu with you to ensure that your order will be satisfactory and pleasing when it gets served. Upon serving the food, the waiter will introduce the dish and recommend how it should be eaten and what the dish is made of.

The freshness of the sashimi and the novelty of the unique dishes there are definitely plus points to this restaurant. Go there for an experience of Japanese fusion of food coupled with commendable service.
