cute place that gives you a huge bowl of pasta! so good. Seems its made fresh (I wouldn't know but that's how good it tastes)
Pizza is also really good but I wouldn't write home about it unlike the pasta's. I always get something different and im blown away every time
I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and both times I have found that the pasta was delicious and the pizza was average. The food was competitively priced and the service was fast. It is a tiny little restaurant which makes it perfect to talk and catch up with friends.
tiny, quaint place at lygon, very authentic italian and the staff are quite welcoming
had a glass of red and pasta, pretty decent prices the only downside i guess is that it gets too busy sometimes
Wow! Yum! It's been a few weeks but I'm definitely going back next time I'm in Melbourne I had linguine marinara and IT WAS HUGE! I couldn't finish it. It was full of prawns, mussels, vongole and fish with a good shaving of parmesan. Beautiful. We satr on the street and it was like being in the middle of one big family.
There's quite a few Italian restaurants in Lygon Street, but Papa Gino's still stands out. It's the most family oriented of all the venues in the area, what with the good service and cuisine for all tastes. It has a vibrant interior decor but it is probably nicer to sit outside to eat and watch the world go by you whilst you eat.
I had the canneloni, but my friends ordered several other dishes and all of them looked (and presumably tasted) great. The one that was probably a little less than average was the steak, but that can't be blamed, as it's not necessarily a steak house.
Approximate cost: $15
Sounds great, I am looking forward to trying this restaurant with my family. Thanks for reviewing.
I visit this lively Carlton Italian restaurant every couple of months and find the staff attentative and friendly and a menu offering good quality food and drink options catering to a variety of needs at reasonable prices. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a meal in the Lygon Street area of Carlton.

Dine at Papa Gino's all the time, love it. Hands down mine and my partners favourite restaurant! Food is always 100%, never had a dud meal, and prices are so good!! It is always super busy which is a teeny tiny down side if you decide to go at peak dining time, but otherwise it kinda adds to the atmosphere. We always take our visiting friends to this place! LOVE love LOVE
Lygon street has an abundant amount of places to eat. Over the years we have dined at most of them and from time to time something new pops up. This place looks inviting so in we go and we get seated straight away. The place is quite full and when i open the menu a quick glance tells me I'm in La Porchetta territory. I go with the Lasagne, hard to fail on this dish in the area. It was your basic dish and not too shabby. The wife hits the waiter for what he suggested (this is always an epic fail from exp) and he reccomends the Veal in white wine sauce. FAIL FAIL FAIL. This is the worst dish I have seen and tasted in this area. Unfortunately this place has now been black listed by the wife! Sorry lads!! No more pappa ginos for us.Test your dishes before you serve them!!!
Approximate cost: $23
