Some background info first:

I’ve purchased my Toyota RAV4 around 13 years ago, and I’ve been a loyal customer to where I’ve recently purchased my 2019 Toyota Kluger GXL. I’ve always trusted Peter Kittle as a respectable and honest dealer until my recent car service yesterday.

Here’s what happened:

Around a week ago, I read through my Owner’s Manual and found that a couple of interesting settings could be customised at “my dealer” - that specifically being the auto door unlock and lock based on shift (unlock on park, lock on drive). Being excited as I was to visit Peter Kittle again, I went in at around 13:00 only to be told that the parts department was closed and that I should visit the following week on Tuesday. So on Tuesday, I went in again just to be told that I needed an appointment. So I made the appointment, and the parts department representative took note of my vehicle’s year, make and model and noted down that I wished to change the auto lock and unlock function on my car. For future reference, I clearly asked the guy if that setting could be changed, and he said “yes, that is definitely an option we can change for you, but since the programmer is sick, we’ll need to schedule it for next week. There will also be a fee of $75 for the change.” From my understanding, I had purchased the vehicle recently and the one setting change only needed a diagnostic tool such as Techstream to be plugged into the vehicle, so I wasn’t sure why the price was so high. After some negotiation, the guy lowered it down to $65. After some more negotiation, he finally revealed that if I make that request on the same day as my car’s service in a week’s time, it would be free. So my problem here is why did the representative not ACTIVELY seek the best for me? Why did I have to ask three times just to find out that there is a free option with the only disadvantage being I have to wait for a week?

But that’s not even the worst part; the worst part was coming in again for my service one week later. Being excited once again that my setting could finally be changed, I interacted with a woman from the parts department and notified her of my service; she looked through the notes and read aloud that I wanted to customise some settings for my vehicle. I replied “yes” and further clarified what I wanted to change. She then said “all right, let’s go have a look” and drove my car into the garage area where we both got into my car. She then literally, and I mean literally, opened the settings menu from my car’s infotainment screen and navigated into “vehicle” and “door lock” settings. She then went out of her way and explained to me what all of the settings did, such as the “two press unlock” function, as if I didn’t know that already. Then she tried to scroll down further in the settings menu only to find that the “auto lock and unlock on shift” option was not there. She explained that since the setting is not there, she couldn’t program it… okay, I mean, with all due respect, why the f*ck would I need you to program it if could change the setting myself in my vehicle. Is it so hard for me to change that one setting that I need to pay a professional programmer $65 to help me click it? Then I suggested that the option needed Techstream or some diagnostic tool, but she said she’ll have a look but “if it’s not in the vehicle settings, she might not be able to program it. Okay, so once again, if it’s in there, why do I need you to program it, huh? And in the end, I waited 3 hours for my service only to be charged $300 and told that the setting was not available in my car. I wanted to double check, but she reinforced that she had checked already and nothing could be changed. The only reason I even booked a service was to change that setting for free, but the woman waited for the service to finish before telling me that the setting wasn’t “available”.

I feel like my loyalty has been betrayed, and I have already made sure that my friends and family will not be purchasing from you guys again. I am utterly disappointed.

The staff shouldn't promise things that wasn't going deliver without consulting with the boss and should be written on paper. The after service are not great as well.

I traded in my old Focus on an ex-demo Yaris and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and NON PUSHY salesman who assisted me. My last 2 car purchases had both been nightmares, however all of the staff at Peter Kittle were very friendly. I was also getting rid of some personalised plates, and they helped with that at the same time. And my new car is wonderful.
