The tour operators were very obliging, patient and knowledgeable. We didn't feel rushed. There were a lot of different species of birds and a few mammals. Pop shared some stories about the very early history. In all a great morning was had by all. Margaret

A great morning out for members and friends of our community group. Pop and Heather are very easy to deal with as regards booking and fitting in with our requirements. This is the second trip we have done with them and this time they took us to an area we had not visited before which added interest and variety. We saw an amazing number of birds and loved venturing up the quiet creeks as well as going ashore at a couple of spots. If you are interested in the history of this area Pop will happily share his knowledge. Yummy morning tea provided by Heather with a smile. Despite a very hot morning we were cool under the shady canopy and had plenty of room to move around. Highly recommended.

We were visiting from Perth and wanted to see what we could of Townsville. The boat ride was great. Friendly service and very knowledgeable about the area.
We were made to feel comfortable and our 1 year old was allowed to walk about the boat freely. Also great we could purchase alcohol on board.
a great family run business.

Pop and Heather took us from one side of the Ross Dam to the other and then up the river. We stopped to view some historical sites and stretch our legs, then continued back to where we started. Pop and Heather provided entertainment all through the journey, singing and comedy. You could buy cheap drinks and snacks along the way. It was a pleasant and memorable couple of hours

We have been on Pops Cruises a few times before and I think they are getting even better as Pop is an entertainer as well as being the cruise manager. The last time we went up the river with our family up from Brisbane and a couple of friends in Townsville and we all had a great day. We had a couple of stops and also Pop explained the history of the place to us all. The grandchildren really enjoyed it and we have pictures of them "driving" the boat which they were anxious to show their school friends when they got back to Brisbane. Also Heather excels herself in looking after the guests.

It is a wonderful experience on a boat where you can see lots of birds plus scenery with the bonus of either watching the sun rise or set whichever time you go.

Shared a cruise with 40 other passengers on the Ross Dam. "Pop" and Heather were very friendly and made everyone feel at home. Very smooth ride in this large houseboat-style craft. Great for taking photos and also has on-board rest-room. Wheelchair-friendly. Alcohol and softdrink can be purchased along with packets of potato chips(not the hot type) "Pop" very knowledgeable on the history of the Ross Dam. A bus takes you on an 8-minute journey from the carpark to the boat and then back afterwards. No insect repellent is required as there are breezes most times which keep insects at bay.

We've been meaning to do this river cruise for the last three or four years but always seemed to run out of time. We are so glad that we have finally got around to doing it as it was an excellent holiday experience and can be summed up in three words: Value; Fun; Informative. It was like a local history outing with lots of laughs added. My wife was so excited she got up and line danced with out hostess. Check it out if you like - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFoZh9EBT-c

Pop and Heather are 2 of Townsville's hidden gems. They made 40+ adults and kids have an amazing afternoon on Ross River Dam. We laughed, we drank, we ate, we talked, we sang and we danced all on a little boat. We even spotted some wild life.

Though this cruise may have been voted the "Best business in 2010" on WOMO, this award may be a tad outdated by now.
We took the Sunday afternoon cruise, which began aboard an old bus which picks passengers up from the carpark meeting point. From there it is about a 10-minute bus trip to the MV Kathleen Mary, located on the banks of Lake Ross itself.
The dam cruise itself was fine, with 'Pop' pointing out points of interest or birds such as the Jabiru. He also offered a history of the area, but much of it has to be left to a strong imagination. Not much solid evidence remains since the dam was installed and the area was flooded with water years and years ago.
This tour seems popular with certain age groups. Perhaps if you are a kid aged between 5-10 or an adult who enjoys a more sedate pace of life this may be the tour for you. It is certainly a harmless way of passing 2.5 hours on a quite Sunday afternoon. For my partner and I, it seemed as if time stood still at certain points. Especially on the return trip when 'Pop' started up his singing accompanied by a type of karaoke soundtrack, which was made worse by the crackly sound system cranked up way too loud. Fortunately the boat is licensed and the only refuge was in the alcohol we could purchase.
This is definitely a cruise to avoid unless you're in the mood for "Obscure Songs of Yesteryear" (sorry!). As far as tour operators go, Heather and Pop are friendly and helpful. But the interest factor of the cruise is far too low for a repeat visit.

Magnetic island Community Care Clients boarded the Mary Kathleen on cold wet miserable day. The day was still enjoyable because of the great service and non stop entertainment provided by Pop and his partner.

Having lived in Townsville for over 40 years I had never been for a cruise there and did not realise the hidden beauty there. Pop and Heather are fantastic and entertained us all. When you can go somewere like this with friends and end up dancing on the boat it was just magical. Morning tea was supplied. There was so much fun.

We enjoyed the cruise even though it was very windy and cold. Learnt so much about what used to be under the water. On the brochure it states free nibbles - however we had to pay for our packets of chips. Considering the cost per person would have thought these would have been free. Thanks for an entertaining morning.
