A must do place to visit great friendly staff great pies and sausage rolls and donuts are to die for ,put on your list to visit
Wow! What a lot of patrons they have. A small bakery with a big variety. Staff always welcoming. We go there every holiday time twice a year. We love their Apricot Strudels (a generous amount of fruit in them). Their pies are a bit small but tasty. They pack the taste into their bakery items. Be prepared for the lineup there is outside of this bakery most times because their food is so good! Their Vanilla Slice and Apricot Slice are really delicious!
On a previous trip down south, we stopped here for lunch. There’s often a long queue outside the door but they have plenty of staff to cope. We had a pie, a pasty and a cake each - lovely! They deserve their excellent reputation.
Approximate cost: $20
Honestly, this is probably the best bakery I have ever come across in my travels. Whilst working in Port Elliot for a period of time I frequented this bakery many das a week. I enjoyed many pies, pasties, sausage rolls and even pizza! I don't really have a sweet tooth but i did purchase many cakes to take home to the family. Their iced berlinas are an absolute family favourite.
There would often be queues of people and I would happily line up with them ias it was worth the wait, as long as you can spare the time.
A definite must try in Port Elliot!
Came in here for some bread rolls and was also impressed by the range of bakery items. All looked and smelt great. Luckily I came in the afternoon as at lunch time the queue was out the door. (School holidays and weekends) Always good to come here.
Fantastic bakery, well worth waiting in the queue if you have the time to spare
Great food, may not be the cheapest but any day you can guarantee it is FRESH and tasty which tempts one to go there more than perhaps one should.Great if one has visitors.
nice pastry! one of the best pastry in SA!! this bakery is always packed with people! I love their pies and pasties because of the cripsyness of the pastry. it's nice to have it with a cup of good coffee but sadly they dont serve coffee. However, if u plan to visit port elliot next time, stop by a grab the curry beef pie (my fav!)
Approximate cost: $3.50
I will have to try the curry beef pie you mentioned, sounds like a great bakery.
This bakery is famous in this area. Often the queue winds down the footpath. It has wonderful pies, pasties, sausage rolls as well as kitchener buns and all manner of sweet delights. Well worth visiting and trying for yourself.
i love bakeries and this one sounds perfect. the line goes out the door? wow, they must be a extremely popular cafe. will have to go here soon.
This is the only bakery I know of where there is a queue coming out the door on the weekend. It has a great variety of bakery goods, both sweet and savory and baked to perfection. So yummy!!
I have been going to this bakery since I was about 2 years old. My grand parents live at port elliott and every single time we went there, without a doubt I would make 1 or 2 stops at the bakery.
Their pies have to be the best pies I have ever had! I also love their pumpkin and onion bread but you either need to order this or get their first thing because it sells out real quick. My favourite desert of all time is their donuts or the custard filled dounts!
I can not praise this bakery enough! The line is generally out the door for 2-3 hours a day, especially through the summer period but they do a great job of serving people quickly so you aren't standing their for too long.
I think this is the best bakery EVER!!!
Approximate cost: $4.50
The downside as stated by many is the long line up, especially on the weekend. However, the vast range of pastries hot and cold is worth the wait. The pepper steak pie and creamy kitchener bun are a favourite of mine.
Every time I am down on the South Coast I have to stop and get brunch, lunch or Afternoon Tea from the Bakery. If you get there at lunch time you can expect to be in line. This is the most popular Bakery on the South Coast and it is no longer a secret.
Their Donuts are the BEST!!! No exaggeration!!!!!!! Interstaters love Krispy Kremes well in Adelaide we have the Pt Elliot Bakery :)
The only slight downfall is that their hot food is never hot enough, always just warm. I understand that they keep the food at recommended temperature but it would be nice if it was actually hot, it would make it a perfect score then
this bakery had one of the best chocolate donuts i have had, it was very fresh and almost melt in the mouth. the staff members were very nice and friendly also which makes it a place that you always want to go back to.
I agree, I happily drive 1.5 hrs just for a donut :)
as a local this is my favourite bakery always friendly service and fresh produce if you havent been there yet DO IT :)
we went to this bakery whilst on holidays in the area
no exaggeration when i say I had the best ever iced choc doughnut i have ever eaten
the pies and pasties were baked perfectly and delicious
would recommend this place to anyone, pity that i live in Victoria and its too far for me to go this bakery for a treat!
Excellent food good service, well worth the visit also very clean
overlooking a wonderful view of the main street to Goolwa
i agree, one of my fav bakeries
Pt. Elliot bakery is so good. You won't regret dropping by and will want to keep coming back. The pasties, pies and sausage rolls are really delicious.
There's always a line out the door and HEAPS of people serving. There's might be a bit of a wait, but it's well worth it.
If down in Port Elliot you MUST give it a try, I love their pastes and sweet treats.
YUM! Definitely a summer tradition
Approximate cost: $3
By far the best bakery in Australia .... And the lines of customers down the road are proof. It is worth waiting for. Amazing food, in an amazing town
Huge line-ups in summer down the road dont deter me from stopping here every time I'm down that way - the pies are soooo yummy, as well as the cakes......best I've done in one sitting is 3 pies, and I'm only tiny :)
Approximate cost: $4 per pie
Not as good as everyone says it is, nothing special at all or different to any bakery in the area
This is an amazing bakert that has been successful for many years. i love getting my pasty and buns ther eeverytime we stay in the caravan pk. The line is always out the door but it doesnt take long and your inside and looking at all the pastries not jsut smelling them
Approximate cost: $5
This bakery is amazing. Everytime I'm down there for a surf, it's a must do.
There simply is no beating it.
Service is amazing. Although the place is always packed, the wait is always small.
Taste is AMAZING.
Simply cannot compare it to another.
Approximate cost: $4.00
Really good food, everything is yummy, they use fresh cream in their buns, you have to try a pasty and the raspberry scrolls! It is always really busy in summer and holidays though so expect to wait in a line which can go half way down the street!
Approximate cost: $5
We love the Port Elliot Bakery. We make specific drives from Adelaide just to get their pastries. The staff are so incredibly efficient too. We are served so quickly even when the line is down the road! I would definately recommend this place.
Have often stopped here for quick pies and pasties when touring the Soiuth Coast. Most delicious pasties that seen to taste extra special near the sea air and on cool windy days. The length of the ques on holiday weekends emphasises the popularity of this country bakery.
The queue that so often (especially on weekends) stretches outside this bakery is proof of the food quality - it's fabulous food and always unbelievably fresh! It's true the staff can be abrupt with customers but, if you call in on a weekday when there isn't a queue, the ladies are fine. I can only imagine how hard it would be to be SO busy on weekends. Makes me wonder why someone doesn't start up another top-quality bakery...please just make sure the next one's in Victor Harbor...
All the food is fresh and soooo tasty. Huge selection of pastries, bread and pies. The staff deserve medals as they have lines out the door and down the street in summer time. Yes they can be rude but so are the customers at times. The food is exquisite.
These guys have are the best bakery on the coast, they have a wide selection and its really really tasty. The only catch is it can get VERY busy, and because the staff are so busy they can be pretty rude.
