At Ripples, we aim to adopt and implement eco-efficient practices. This begins by introducing natural materials such as rocks, logs, bark and natural timber equipment to create irresistible indoor/outdoor spaces for children to engage in play- based learning. We aim to provide a 'low plastic' environment and to promote recycling as a daily practice. Adopting these principles improves the quality of our service, helps to reduce costs, and ensures that we are contributing to a sustainable future.
Our centre has been designed to allow us to introduce these concepts in a practical way that involves the children directly. Environmental education is an influential force that helps children to understand and appreciate their world. Once children appreciate the natural world they can learn how to take action to protect their environment. We believe that the provision of natural landscapes will encourage children to engage in gross motor play, exploration and this, in turn, creates social cohesion, tolerance and friendships.
We have implemented a number of initiatives to help encourage children to appreciate the natural world and their part in it. These include:
Recycling products for art and craft
Rain harvesting water tanks
Sun-safe natural shade and shade structures
Chemical-free gardens and play spaces
Timers on water taps
A vegetable garden
A worm farm
Age appropriate room pets (fish, budgie, guinea pig, rabbit)
Compost bin
