As with many of the wineries in the Adelaide Hills, their tastings are run a little differently. Rather than coming in and having a general tasting, they have settings laid out with a description of each of their tasting wines and the option of pairing the tasting with cheese for a cheese and wine flight. If you've done your research and are prepared for this, it's a great option and makes for a lovely and relaxing little tasting. They are happy for you to share between yourselves if someone is driving, as to do the whole tasting, which is 5 x 40ml glasses, would take you up to around 2.5 standard drinks.
The wines themselves are lovely and a true reflection of the region. There were three whites on offer and two reds. The whites surpassed the quality of the reds (if you like a big full-bodied shiraz, for example)- but that's again, typical of the cooler climate wines.
Staff were knowledgeable and really friendly also, which always makes or breaks an experience!

Approximate cost: $15

Shaw and Smith is one of our favourite wines, and the winery is just stunning. Very modern "shed" style building full of wooden tables at which you taste a flight of wines, accompanied by cheese if you elect to purchase it - I recommend you do. It's lovely in spring and autumn to see sunlight and shadows dappled over the vineyards.

We arrived on a sunny afternoon to this beautiful winery. It would be a stunning location for a function - looking out over the valley to the dam. We had the wine and cheese experience which we thought was worth the money. This is one of the first wineries that we have been to that charges for a tasting but the addition of the matched local cheeses was worth paying for. The staff were fantastic!
