Shine removals totally ripped me off. They advertise misleadingly to be fast and professional, but they charged me $847 for a two bedroom move across the street.
On the first day, the movers came 1 hour late and took 3.5 hours to load the truck. This caused me to miss the time to move into the next building and I had to leave my things overnight in their truck. They charged me $397 the first day excluding overnight charges. I had to spend the night in a hotel because I did not have any of my things with me and it was so cold.
The next day the movers came 1.5 hours late at 920 instead of 8am. The customer service manager or owner (depends on which staff you speak to) named Rocky said he would give me $50 off the $100 overnight charge (since they caused the situation by being late), but did not convey this to the movers. The movers were slow and went to toilet 4 times without asking, they frequently texted and used their phones, trying everything to drag the time out. When I asked them to help me out by speeding it up abit, they only moved slower than before. They spoke on the phone in cantonese and mandarin, and when I asked them to move faster they shouted back at me saying they are already being fast.
Halfway through the move, they demanded that I pay them an erroneous amount of $405, otherwise they refused to keep moving. They said they would stop the charging time if I went to withdraw the money. When I asked about the $50 discount the manager had given they said there was no such thing and refused to let me speak to their manager on the phone. When I sought help from my building manager, it only escalated the situation as they threatened to leave my things on the street unless I paid them immediately. The building manager gave up as well as they were not being reasonable. I was distraught and went to withdraw the money in tears. After I came back I found them leisurely unloading things. I paid them and they silently continued moving slowly. I was in tears and watched them from afar, they dropped a box labelled fragile off the truck and did not say anything about it. They constantly complained and took a total of 4.5 hours. When they were done asked for another $50 for the extra time they took, I didn't want to give it to them and it suddenly became an extra $90. When I resisted they said they would take my fridge, washer or computer instead. They walked around and touched my things discussing how much they would be worth. I was afraid being female and alone in the apartment that they would try to harm me or take my things. They kept pressuring me by using scare tactics and talking as if they had done a great job. For 40mins they stood in my apartment asking for my credit card number, they said they would give me a "discount" of $20 if I quickly gave them my credit card. I would have called the police but my phone was dead.
In the end I paid the extra $70 amount to a total of $847 over two days of moving things across the street. I am left speechless by the whole ordeal. But I will be sure to take action with relevant authorities. Calling them crooks is an understatement.
Approximate cost:
$850
Im sorry for your experience, they sound terrible!
