Great value for money and generous portions. The set lunches are a must try. Got ample seating as there is upstairs and downstairs. Would definitely go back !!

This is a beautiful japanese restaurant that has been opened for many years. The dining atmosphere and service are really great. I highly recommend their lunch sets as they are at great value with many dishes included. If you are lucky enough to sit at the bar table, you will get see the chef preparing all the food in front you. You can hardly get this kind of experience at other japanese restaurants.

Mixed feelings about Shoya. Some menu items are good. Some are (considering the price charged by this establishment) awful. The Savoury Egg Custard - seriously silky steamed egg custard with chicken, prawn, mushroom and edamame. Beautiful.
Tempura also was spot on.
Mixed steamed rice. Bland, boring and unappetizing visually.
Some deepfried dish that included a hard boiled egg, shiitake mushroom etc
Pickled fish and vegetable dish

We were eating from the most expensive set menu at lunch. At the given price, I was disappointed. It felt like they were simply dishing out plates for the sake of filling up the table with a series of offerings. There was no sense in the ordering of service or the selection of dishes served.

Others had recommended Shoya's Lunch Menu set and we went on a Sunday to experience this. Very enjoyable, delicious and high quality meal. The service was one of the best i have experience. The waitress who was genuinely Japanese explained the dishes well and was very attentive (but not intrusive). She would when appropriate wipe and clear up dishes promptly, topped up our tea, and meals were brought out efficiently. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Sashimi was fresh! Our highlight was a dish that came out with the Business Lunch Menu with sashimi served inside a ball of ice. Great eye to detail. Highly recommend trying Shoya for a special occasion.
We chose to sit with the Tatami traditional section. Don't forget to wear socks if you choose to sit here :) You are asked to remove your shoes to wear slippers, adding to the Japanese experience. My parents had a bit of difficulty getting up and sitting down at this section due to arthritis, so consider sitting on a normal seating section depending on your guests.

Approximate cost: $35-38 for a lunch menu

I was expecting big things from this restaurant. The decor is just awful, outdated, not the quality I would expect from a 1 hat restaurant.
The bathrooms are very old, worse than a public toilet.
My friend and I could not believe that the cutlery that was provided were wooden disposable chopsticks.
I really was excited to try this place.
I also felt the service could do with improvement as I asked the waiter for ice a few times and said he would bring it and he never did until the third time I asked.

This restaurant has so much potential the food is very good not cheap but if they updated their decor and really fixed it up I could justify the price and would definitely go back but the way it looks and the atmosphere, quality of the furniture needs improving immediately.
It really did take away the enjoyment my friend and I could have experienced.

see, there is no need to look further for the best sushi and sashimi in town. in terms of variety, quality, taste, authenticity, this is the best!!!
in terms of originality and creativity, shoya has it all demonstrating in other menu items!
lunch time meal provide best value!

There are several different seating areas at Shoya, most of which were full at Friday lunch time. Luckily as we hadn't booked, there was room at the Sushi Bar.We enjoyed sitting there and watching all the elements come together at the hands of the master.

We ordered the Business Lunch Set ($65) and the Matsu Set ($38). It was good to compare the two and there were some special extras such as the frozen sphere and gold leaf, but next time we'd order two Matsu. The ingredients were top quality and flavours were superb.

Overall, excellent, unobtrusive service and delicious food. Not your average sushi bar that's for sure!

Had the most amazing degustation menu at this place for company christmas lunch. I think it was $100 for 8 courses. The foods were amazing. The sashimi were extremely fresh and served in a bowl carved out of ice. The beef spinach roll- stewed ox tongue served with spinah souffle melted in my mouth. Hokaido crab tempura served with green tea salt were delicious.

Approximate cost: $30.00
