Purchased timber flooring from Slocum. The timber installation was a nightmare from start to finish. The floor levelling left the timber dipping in places causing creaking noises. They returned to fill the dips, but unfortunately they overfilled one of the dips resulting in a 'speed hump', which made the creaking worse. In addition, they chipped the bottom of our new kitchen cabinetry which they had to pay to have repaired. They returned again and sanded the hump, but not enough to fix the issue. They sent a rep from the timber company who advised the floor levels are not to spec. & that the floor boards that have now been lifted 3 times may need to be replaced. The timber company rep advised they had stock which they could provide Slocum. Slocum returned yet again and advised that many of the boards provided by the timber company were defective, and the wrong size. After much debate they agreed to lift the boards (for the 4th time) to get the levelling right, and to apply additional wax (supplied by me) to the board edges. Throughout the discussions I never heard an apology from one of the Slocum owners in attendance, even after I explained all the effort involved on our behalf each time they lifted the flooring ie. empty & move furniture, remove kick boards from new kitchen, remove dishwasher, cover furniture with drop sheets to protect from dust. Unfortunately I had introduced a friend to Slocum at the start of the process, & they too met with the same outcome, an uneven creaking timber floor. Issue still not resolved.

Slocum Flooring rep provided samples of boards and a decision was made on the quality and colour of the product. Flooring installed had major variations in quality and colour not explained by the rep prior to installation, gross misrepresentation of the boards in comparison to samples shown. Many calls to Slocum, flooring rep and a letter of complaint have not been followed up or concerns addressed. Seven months down the track no response from Slocum who have totally ignored our requests.

Approximate cost: $6,100
