Terrible they don't do a proper inspection they lied about the percent the brakes were on they lied and said mechanical was good said they checked turbo and said all components were fine when there was a big leak in the intercooler they put general aging for brakes that had rotord that were completely screwed when trying to call them back they told my partner she has no idea what she's on about and to stop yapping and hung up on her and she was told by owner of the company that intercooler has nothing to do with the turbo and they can't tell the difference if it's front or back brakes that are stuffed and that 2 other mechanics have lied to her then hung up on me also very rude would not recommend no peace of mind buying a car if state road do your inspection 3000$ in repairs after state roads did their so called comprehensive inspection the promise a 30 day guarantee of everything they check but hang up when they are held to it

Highly recommend StateRoads (Brisbane location). Anthony was our inspector and he provided an on-time, thorough pre-purchase inspection of a car I was going to buy. Due to his professional option I decided to pass on this car because it had a lot of internal structural and mechanical issues I was not aware of from a visual inspection. Thanks Anthony for your time and assistance.

Great company with very experienced mechanics who know when dodgy sellers are trying to hide things! These guys are the best there is. I had an Inspection done on a Black Toyota Supra in Wollert which turned out to be the biggest pile of rubbish in Victoria. The photos were Clear of the oil dripping from the engine and transmission, the doors were once red and now painted black with house paint on the insides, the interior was faded and falling apart ..the story goes on. As you can imagine the owner painted a whole other story about its condition! Im so happy I did not go ahead and buy this car that belongs on the scrap heap. Thanks you so much State Roads Melbourne. You saved me!

Booked a State Roads inspection for an interstate purchase of a Lexus LX470 based on generally great google reviews. Paid just over $300 for a comprehensive inspection through the Melbourne office and the customer service upon booking and receiving the report was great, no complaints.
The report listed minor issues (most serious was a noisy power steering pump) so based on the report and phone call with the inspecting officer I went ahead with the purchase. Three hours after picking up the car I had a rear passengers side tyre blowout (Tyre shop told me the tyres were over 10 tears old and the cracks should have been obvious).
Next day the belt tensioner pulley seized resulting in a snapped water pump/power steering belt and a six hour sit by the highway - although the 'noisy power steering pump' vanished once a new tensioner was installed..
The rear tailgate has had a major impact resulting in a tear to the metal seam which wasn't picked up by the inspector. Rust along the top of the windscreen was missed (extremely obvious) and emissions hoses in the engine bay were not connected or split. The Oxygen sensors were faulty (leading to engine fault codes being generated and heavy fuel consumption (over 20 litres per hundred km))

Happy to provide photos to back up the claims - I never would have purchased this car had stateroads provided the "comprehensive" report I believed I was getting. Their warranty was useless too - only covers internally lubricated parts of the motor and had to be registered within 24 hours of the inspection which wasn't clearly disclosed on their website.

All in all a case of "caveat emptor", paying a premium may not always guarantee the most competent inspector is assigned - in this case resulting in significant out of pocket expenses.

Inspection number 267866.

Approximate cost: $300

If only had a crystal ball or bionic ears and eyes.
Its disappointing to hear your dissatisfied with our service and take it very serious.
How ever after a investigation into your claims it was noted that there appears to be a noisy and leaking power steering pump when inspected and is on your report ,you were advised further diagnosis in a workshop is advised to confirm. This noise can cover other whining noises like a noisy pully bearing and unfortunately this failed on your emediat road trip.If the noise was located in a workshop ( Common sense prevails before your long trip the pullly would then have been detected and you still had a leaking power steering pump. Regarding your claim there was a MAJOR accident repair done at the rear of the car
IF there was a major accident repair at the tailgate then there should certainly be rear floor damage also so we are happy To see your photos of the major repairs however a repair to a tailgate would not be regarded as major repair and small cracks are common in tailgates on 4x4 cars from off-road vibrating use. please inform our office when the photos are sent and we can also send another inspector out to confirm your claim.
Yours sincerely
Stateroads Melbourne.

I have attempted to discuss this directly with State Roads however have not had a response therefore providing this information for others to note when considering State Roads.

We bought a car soon after a platinum inspection from State Roads which indicated nothing more than normal wear and tear for a car of 6 years old. Two weeks later we had the car serviced. During the service it became apparent that the alternator had previously caught fire and damaged the cooling system hoses directly above the alternator. There had been a fuel leak from the low pressure electric diesel pump which ran down the coolant hoses and dripped onto the alternator, catching alight when the alternator warmed up.

The mechanic confirmed this had been occurring over sometime (ie pre-inspection). There was clear bubbling in the coolant hose and if this had ruptured would have caused significant damage to the engine.

Within our inspection report the radiator hoses had been ticked off as satisfactory with no issues. I understand that oil/diesel leaks can be wiped away prior to inspection however the radiator/coolant hose bubbling (damage) would have been clearly visible with any considered inspection of the engine bay, given the hoses are the front of the bay visible without removing any casing.

The outcome was a repair bill of $900+ which (thankfully) was covered under the dealers statutory warranty.

I have contacted State Roads directly with this information and received no formal response to this issue.

The punctuality and professionalism pre and during inspection couldn't be faulted however the worth of their inspections and their response to issues i considered poor.

Did i get a "platinum" level of inspection? I don't think so.

So i reluctantly booked an inspection from state roads. After talking to the seller i thought i was looking at a beautiful 1971 chevy impala and wasting my time getting it looked at..... How people can lie so much is beyond me.
Alan looked at it for me as i didn't want to drive 900kms for nothing and I'm glad i didn't. The car was full of rust, brakes didn't work, windows didn't work, oil leaks, doors didn't shut properly. Basically a heap of [redacted offensive word]. Money well spent and i will use again.
Thank you very much Alan and state roads. Saved me over 20k. Or another 20k with potential repairs.

Be very very careful with understanding what there product is - Offering
- Covering
- And that you register your service even though they clearly
have your details / payments as a record of there service.

I purchased a vehicle with their inspection, and exactly 4 weeks after i was told by a mechanic that there was a serious issue with the front tail shaft.

Because i had not realized that i had to register after the inspector to claim a warranty, the issue cost me $1,400 to fix.

Why didn't the inspector mention "make sure you register?"
Why didn't the receptionist mention "make sure you register"

I hadn't booked online so i HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THIS. I had an old business card with the contact number and business name.

Again make sure you are fully aware of the way this product operates. As they are lovely when things are going well, but very deceiving when it doesn't .

Having no option for Google reviews says it all!

Hi sorry to here your dissatisfied with our service. We endeavour to give a thorough and fair service and never to deceive our customers. However we do have a very clear written section on our website regarding what we offer.
The problem you have encountered 4 weeks after the inspection was not faulty when inspected and we cannot see into the future especially with a older second hand car. Our garuantty is very fair and very clear and we are obviously not able to offer a full statutory warranty like a car dealer that would possibly make a large profit on the sale and would cover everything possible.
So again I am sorry to here of your unhappiness with the inspection but we try our very best with the best Mechanics in the Buisness.

Fast response and a very professional service. The support was flawless and the mechanic that inspected my vehicle was fantastic. The Platinum report itself was comprehensive and very informative. this level was a good investment and offered peace of mind I would use this company over the RACV report service next time without hesitation (and I'm insured with them).

Terrible experience that cost me over $5,000. Beware who you are dealing with here and don't be fooled by the web site. This company is just a web site and they sub-contract out all inspections-so you are left to the mercy of who they happen to sub-contract out to on the day. When things go wrong the most you can claim out of them is $500 (and you are lucky if they even offer you that as they were expert at blaming everyone but themselves). My experience cost me over $5000 as they missed a completely faulty gearbox. The sub-contractor was rushing between his comitments and he spent one hour doing a two hour inpsection! Not worth the risk in my opinion - instead go with a firm where you know which mechanic will be doing the job and they will unequivocally back up the quality of their work.

Approximate cost: $250

Stateroads only use the highest qualified engineers and know exactly who is doing your inspection. They offer the same or better guarantee as any opposition however don't have a crystal ball to see inside a mechanical component without dismantling it , After 25 years of inspections we must be doing something good as we have previous customers call every day to use our services.

I would use these guys again and again (that is if I could afford to buy more cars!)
I had State Road look at two potential cars for me.
The inspector on the first one was fantastic (I was able to be there at the time). He talked me through potential issue with that model, and found a few things wrong with the car which if they failed would be very costly. So I kept looking. The second inspection confirmed the next car was a keeper. Took their advice, bought it, and VERY happy!!
