There is definitely value in their meals as the servings here are in no way lacking, the food itself is satisfactory and the location being on the main road is convenient but hard to find parking.

A $8 lunch has hooked me when work sends me to Newtown, not too often but this place is a gem and should not be overlooked.

its confusing there are 2 thai la-ongs - the original and thai la ong 2. the menu is the same, but having eaten at both i prefer this one. The food seems slightly tastier, more colourful and a bit more generous. Excellent lunch deals at $7, you cant go wrong. Definitely back again for me.

This is the first thai restaurant that I tried in newtown 2 year ago. The lunch special already increase the price from 6.5 to 7. Staffs care generally friendly, but the waiting time could be long if you come in between 12:30 to 1:30.

The taste, portion and value is all above average, I came here regularly for the Pad see iew(noodle with black bean sauce) , pad khi mao(noodle with chili basil), Gai Yang BBQ (grill chicken) , Pad Kapao(rice with chili basil), Pad mad ma moang(rice with cashew nut).

Sometimes, they offer free dessert, the black sticky rice with coconut milk, very yummy. Recommend everyone to give it a try.

This place is amazing! $6.50 lunch time specials and it tastes amazing. Best place to go if you are studying at USYD and feeling hungry. Staff are really friendly and portions are huge. Definitely worth the walk

The best place for a student. Frequently eat here, because the food is so good, and for that price, you're basically beating McDonalds. This place is deceptively spacious, they don't have much room at the front of the shop, but the back opens up to a terrace? And it is a much nicer space. The service was lovely, very attentive, particularly when you consider how many people were in the restaurant (next to University of Sydney, during lunchtime, offering large-portioned $7 Thai. Imagine how many people that would be). Really great experiences every time I come here, this one and the one further down (Thai La-Ong 2, I assume they are owned by the same people) are great places to eat.

Cheap as chips lunch menu!

OK, the value is amazing. Plenty of food for your money.
For $6.50 you can choose from a list of about 20 dishes, with tofu, beef, chicken or pork with various sauces with rice noodles or flat noodles.

The quality is OK, it's not gourmet, but then that's not why you come here!

Service has been pretty shockingly slow on a couple of occasions, on others it's just fine. But you put up with these things for the value.

This place is amazing!
Very busy, very cheap ($6.50 for lunch!!!) and extremely fast.
Not a place for a lazy lunch - more a quick in & out.
Fair quality, great flavours. I personally think its too cheap for what you get - really it's a bargain.

The food here is great, but in my opinion is somehow not as good as the food in Thai La-Ong 2, just down the road. I always eat for under $15 here, so it's a pretty good place to check out for a cheap eat.

AMAZING thai place which is extremely cheap- I was so shocked! Went there with 2 other friends and we each ordered the lunch deal of $6.50 per dish- they were very generous servings! We didn't get to finish them!

Thai la ong does great food at excellent prices. The $6:50 lunch deal is excellent value & I go back regularly for their red curry or pad see ew. (Dinner prices are more). Service is generally good & meals usually come out fairly quickly.

Approximate cost: $6.50-lunch

Being a sucker for cheap food, I go to this restaurant at least twice a week. My personal pick is the pad yan tafor (spelling?). There is always a takeaway container full of leftovers for the next day! Service is fast and friendly, nothing too fancy.

Went there for cheap lunch. Price-wise can't be beaten at $6.5 for pad thai, Gai Yang BBQ, etc. and more importantly, the foods taste good too!

Crazy cheap $6 lunch special (with loads of options: meat/veg stirfries, noodles, curries, bbq, satay) available till around 3 or even later if you're lucky (I had dinner there just after 4 once and paid only $6). As expected, it's extremely popular with the uni students, but personally the food just isn't quite up to scratch for me. I prefer the fresh, sharp flavours of authentic Thai food and to be honest this food is just a little too oily and bland. But for only $6 (and an enormously generous portion size), it's a very decent and popular feed.

Approximate cost: $6 (lunch) 8-12 (dinner)

This place offers really cheap meals- at lunchtime there are lots of yummy meals on offer for only $6. I had a fried rice which was nice, but I must say I prefer Newtown Thai, also on King St. I once came into La Ong in the evening to order a spicy soup takeaway, and the quality was a bit lacking for the price of $8 or so. I would only go for the lunch specials, because later in the day you have to pay more for $6 value food.

One of the best launch choice, with 6 dollar lunch special.
The pad Thai are best, but curries a bit watery, and Pad Kee Mao where not as flavour as it should be. others are still as nice as it should be for such cheap price.

Very tasty food, the curries are above average and there is an impressive range of dishes. The service is not the greatest but they do at least try to be accommodating.
