It was super busy on the day we visited and we were seated on at a low coffee table, which made eating a bit hard. The food however was delicious and fresh. The building is interesting.

This cafe has the best coffee in all of Melbourne, with house roasted beans. Service is just right, the location is second to none.

Dinning at Heritage buildings or landmarks have always been a passion of mine and The Maling Room is amongst my favourites.

I love the high ceilings, the old leadlight windows, dark timber furnishings, the brightness of the cafe on a sunny day and best of all, the quality of their food as well as the efficiency of their staff.

The best coffees can also be found here as the coffee used are of high and excellent grades and their breakfasts are to die for.

Each tables are sparsely spread which gives one plenty of room to move around in and great for families with prams or young children.

We visited for lunch last Tuesday and had a most wonderful meal. So clean and fresh. We probably staid too long but fully enjoyed

In an old Post Office building hence the name and location in Maling Rd, I loved the great coffee and wonderful food, a local friend swears by the Bircher muesli but I loved the Truffle eggs and kids enjoyed pastries. Can be a little noisy and crowded but go a bit earlier, the food and coffee will always be fab!

Coffee: As one of the best cafe's in Melbourne, Maling Room's attention to detail can be plainly seen and tasted. Their choice of quality beans and their brewing processes result in a coffee that freshens your senses and makes you feel that little bit happier!

Food: For a dish as simple as the "big breakfast" (bacon, scrambled eggs, spinach, tomatoes, bread etc) Maling room differentiates itself by preparing its fundamentals flawlessly. I have heard (and wouldn't be surprised) that they source their ingredients only from high quality suppliers, and prepare much of their food on-site. They produce a consistently delectable dishes every visit, and even offer daily specials if you want to try something a little different (Sunday's special was "Latin Breakfast" which I highly recommend!).

Service: Within only minutes of ordering I was pleasantly greeted with my hot fresh coffee. Meals were also prepared within very reasonable time frames.

Ambience: Built from a heritage Mailing room, the furniture and flooring emit a certain warmth through its rugged "aged wood." Noise levels are as expected for a successful cafe but tables are not packed close enough to cause any problems for conversation.

Overall: Maling Room's passion for coffee and good food is well reflected in the quality of their beans and ingredients. Prices are very reasonable and their service is highly efficient.

Excellent coffee and food, average service. If you are in the mood, you definitely have to try their BLT - it's heaven. The only downside is that as they are very popular, seats are hard to find sometimes and the waiters/waitresses may miss seeing you sit down. Oh and you come away with a 'cafe' smell on your clothes. Totally worth it though.

Went in for Sunday lunch, and the experience was one of the worst I have had in the last few years. On entering, greeted by the staff, but that's where the SERVICE finished. Found our own table, waited (and waited) for staff to bring menus, etc. Had to call staff over to get menus. Finally ordered, four meals, three arrive, and no fourth order. Thought it must still be coming, as similar to other orders. Waitress hasn't asked for the whereabouts of the missing order. After another wait, and having to ask about it, meal finally arrives. A complete lack of interest from staff. Another waitress observed texting on mobile phone
while working! After meal, waitress cleans table of TWO plates, but does not return for the other two plates. Comments heard from both adjoining tables about slow and poor service. No offer of coffees, went elsewhere for that! Venue very noisy.
Overall a nice building, but extremely noisy, badly let down by incompetent staff who were not doing their job, complete inattention to CUSTOMER SERVICE! There are several great cafes in Maling Road, and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

It's noisy, service is average, but the truffle eggs are to die for. definitely my favourite breakfast dish now. It's a lovely dish served with aged cheddar and cherry tomatoes. My partner has the smoked salmon eggs and loves that too. Their coffee is excellent so overall we put up with the noise and service because it's just so yummy

The coffee and breakfast here is excellent. Though the best breakys on the menu get price once you add extras. I think the lunch menu is far too limited and the acoustics are terrible. It is so noisy I can hardly hear the person sitting across from me

Since the recall of Bonsoy, I would have to say that this place made the best soy coffee using Vitasoy. However, they really need to work on their staff in particularly the younger girls. They don't know where the coffees are going. My partner and I were asked multiple times if a coffee was for us. The table next to us had problems with coffees not arriving. In the end it turned out that their order was never fully written down. When I went to pay for my coffee it was not in the computer. Excellent product but poor staff training.

Fantastic - every coffee consumed here or for takeaway was perfect. I drove out to Maling Room one afternoon to see about getting some whole beans as we crank out our own coffee most mornings. I was knocked off my feet at how friendly Andrew was even though they were fairly busy. He spent a lot of time with me discussing their house blend and a few other blends they were tinkering with. He cupped me several different ones and sent me away with several free whole bean samples to try at home. Needless to say, throughout our year in Melbourne I returned many times for take away coffee, whole beans, and a sticky beak to just see what they were up to. Every second or third visit they'd be trialling a different espresso machine, experimenting with the house blend, etc. Last time I was in they were about to start on-site roasting! Best of luck to Andrew and co there.

Coffee is wonderful quality - one of the best in Melbourne - so good we buy their beans. Food is good and prices are reasonable. However, if you sit outside the service is terrible. Inside can be very loud especially when it is packed by Mums around school pick-up or drop-off time. Apparently heritage listing means they can't install sound inhibitors - real shame

This is a cafe who does great coffee and really good morning and afternoon tea items and light lunches. It is in a beatuiful building and the owners have resisted the tempatation to sqeeze in more patrons for the sake of extra patronage at the expense of a good ambience. Fitting with the area ther are lots of non diary, non caffine options.

This place sells great brunch type food, but the real gem here is the incredible coffee Andrew and the guys produce. Incidentally, Richard, who runs www.villinoespresso.com.au in Criterion Street Hobart, trained here. The coffee machine at the Mailing Room is amazing. Get a double ristretto slightly longer short machiatto and you will see what I am talking about. Not a hint of bitterness.

Great little cafe - the food is top class - especially their late breaky menu. The eggs benedict is my fave. Coffee is one of the best in town and the service is super - the girls are right on top of it - always asking if we want more drinks before we have to hunt someone down. A regular haunt for those lazy weekend brunch's with the girls!
