We made to trip to Fitzroy just to try Vegie Bar, and loved it was packed but managed to get a spot, I was just a little self conscious though as I'm not sure i was hipster enough :) Can't wait to go back there on our next trip to Melbourne

the best vegetarian, vegan, raw vegan, allergy friendly food establishments in ALL of melbourne. not always up their with their service but thats probably because they dont need to be. people who want good, fresh, cheap REAL food will come here and ignore the inattentive staff and sometimes slow ordering/wait times to get what you pay for. food packed full of flavour with an environmentally conscious edge. cheap and clean food with a menu and prices to match like no where else in the city. highly recommended for meat eaters or vegans alike.

Every time I go to the Vegie Bar the vegetarian / vegan food is always very refreshing and healthy tasting. The interior is raw but interesting, but almost always filled with people, borders on cramped, but never uncomfortable, more like a pleasant social experience. Food tastes great and the range on the menu is impressive to come out of a single kitchen

The worst thing about coming here is choosing what to get on the menu. I'm always overwhelmed. Always tempted with the chocolate cake after a main meal too. That cake is my favourite cake in Melbourne. Downside is the seating arrangement, you usually end up on a communal table.

Whenever I want to introduce my friends to vegan food I bring them to vegie bar. It's great having more than 1 or 2 options when eating at a restaurant, in fact, i have more than 20. Delicious, delicious, delicious!!

I have been to this restaurant on one occasion for dinner with a friend who is vegeterian and this place was her choice.

After reading other reviews on WOMO, I was prepared to give it a try (I am a meat eater generally and not really into vegeterian cuisine)

I have to admit I did enjoy my meal, as it was full of flavour and portion was adequate to fill me up :)

Service was good and have to say it was a good dining experience!

The vegie food was very healthy and taste good. This place was very busy on the night we went in, we had to wait a little but it was worth the wait. The menu was impressive in range, and the meals were substantial.

Being 'The Vegie Bar' they do only serve vegetarian dishes. I would have never normally chosen to go here as I assumed that the vegetarian dishes would be kind of bland and boring. I was wrong! The menu has some really great tasting meals - I didn't even miss having meat! They also have a decent selection of gluten free meals and desserts. I was surprised at how cheap all of the meals are.

They were very busy and the restaurant did seem to be a little overcrowded when I went. It took a while to get a table which was frustrating as they don't take reservations unless you are with a small group of people - not just two or three of you. They have long communal tables which is where we were seated which kind of made dinner conversation a little bit awkward as you are dining beside strangers. The service was slow but I think it was just because they were so busy . . . maybe they could put more staff on at main meal times. Also, the waiters seemed to be 'fake friendly', perhaps because they were so busy and rushed.

I would definitely eat here again as the food was great tasting and affordable, it was just let down by the slow service.

Approximate cost: $16

I would opt for the great food rather than being in a hurry. But then I am retired and time is irelevant to me.

As a vegan/vegetarian cafe, there are lots of creative vegetarian and vegan options.
It is a very busy cafe with high table turnover, so more suited to casual meals.
The servings are very generous and food quality is reasonable.

Approximate cost: $15
