i`d imagine all the locals already know this tiny cafe & takeaway shop at Boyne, but for me it was a brand new discovery in the area. have passed this place probably hundreds of times while on the way to Glady, but it was only yesterday that i actually decided to pay them a little visit. and i have to say, it wasnt bad at all :) the staff is very friendly, the service is quick, the kitchen seemed to be very clean (which for me personally is of key importance!), the menu - very simple but rather extensive (inc. sandwiches, burgers, seafood & poultry snacks etc), the prices very reasonable. my ordered fish & chips was really good, so i guess this place is excellent when one is on the go, on the rush or simply cannot be bothered with home cooking before/after work. coz they do offer some good "fast" stuff :)

i`m not really a very regular visitor at this restaurant (mainly because of the high prices), but every time i go there - i receive the most amazing "wow" experience! i`d advice everyone planning to go there to make a table reservation in advance in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises (probably except monday as it is quiet as hell in the whole town and you can get a table without any hussle pretty much everywhere). the restaurant recently hired some new staff members who provides an excellent customer service (unfortunately, i cannot rate them more than 5 stars). the menu is very tempting and sophisticated (especially the entrees, offering kangaroo rolls and more), the wine list is extensive. their pork belly tastes heavenly! just don`t be fooled by the size: even though it looks rather small, it`s terribly filling and there haven`t been a single time i'd managed to finish that dish completely. overall, there is a very nice vibe inside the restaurant and it`s always nice seeing people arriving here wearing smart clothing... it`s a real fine dining treat in Gladstone!

the cafe is conveniently located at the arrivals lounge and it`s open from 7am, which is great if one is aching for a cuppa coffee before an early flight! however, their prices are just plain terrible! they are higher even in comparison with the ones at the Coffee Club (which has been recently opened in the departure lounge). that especially applies to the alkoholic drinks and sandwiches. had a chicken sandwich there once and will have another one never again - it was that bad :P thus, all in all, it`s an overprized cafe serving food of rather poor quality (their coffee though is alright) in not the most pleasant setting..

This review is for Mangrove Jack's, Airlie Beach QLD

it kind of feels like a pub inside rather than a "cafe bar" as they advertise themselves... we were both terribly hungry and didn`t really want to waist much time browsing the streets of Airlie (as it was our 1st visit at this resort), thus decided to hop in. pizzas seems to be their "speciality", but they sort of lack the elegance & taste to them (well at least, our rustic & vegetarian pizzas did). the "small" size was enough to fill our bellies (while those who had ordered "large" pizzas around us ended up asking for the take away boxes). in general, they seem to be very generous with their portions. the prices were very reasonable, but the food wasn`t of the best taste or quality for sure (probably because they are using cheap products, such as canned veggies, as was the case with my antepasto pizza).

this restaurant was a huge let down...the menu was very poor (luckily, they do have specials of the day) and most definetely overprized! have to admit though, they do have an awesome selection of cocktails. the service was rather hasty despite the fact it wasn`t busy at all at the moment me and my husband arrived. the starters we`d ordered (i.e. garlic bread & pate) weren`t tasting good at all, while the tomatoes on my pizza margherita had a somewhat funny taste to them. however, my husband was over the moon with his fillet steak order it was that yummy! yet again, $38 for such a small steak is just plain crazy! our panacotta was lacking presentation and was brought to us kind of slushy...So yes, it`s a good restaurant located in a very nice place (just opposite the beach), but they have to improve their menu, presentation of the food and most importantly to fix their prices... as for such high prizes i`d expect to receive a fine dining experience, which they don`t really offer at the moment.

This review is for German Sausage Man, Gladstone QLD

you can find a german sausage man (ironically enough who is in fact of swedish origin) pretty much in any major Gladstone market, festival or any kind of social event. there is always the longest queue standing along their tent and the smell coming out is sweet! even though the hotdog-like buns look very simple (basically a bun with a sausage and some ketchup on top of it) the taste is crazy it`s that good! the sausages are really yummy and to date i haven`t been able to find any close match of them anywhere in the shops in gladstone region :/ this is one of the main reasons i even go to these social events around the town (like BAM festival, Hook up festival etc), so that i could have a bite of these heavenly Bratwurst sausages haha.

indeed, that`s one of the most decent pubs in gladstone. never really tried their food, but their cocktail selection is brilliant! good place to catch up with old mates with a pint :) can get badly noisy and busy on friday eves though... which is no big surprise i guess :)

This review is for Indian Balti, Gladstone QLD

verified email - 01 May 2013

I`m not a person keen on any kind of fast food or take aways, but Indian Balti was a pleasant surprise. A very tidy neat small shop (well, probably at least partially due to a fact that they`re relatively newly opened) that provides a very extensive menu. even though i`m not a big fan of asian food, their lamb korma & naan breads were amazing! they define themselves as a restaurant, and they do have a few tables inside but at the moment i`ve arrived it was all empty and i`d guess people who are coming here are mostly ordering take aways. staff was great cheerful and all that, service very quick - it took less than 5 min. it`s great to know there`s a proper place nearby when in desperate need for a quick meal at the end of the work day :)

This review is for Bakers Delight, Melbourne VIC

bakery was conveniently located nearby my hotel while visiting Melbourne, which was a great fortune, for i am a big fan of all kinds of pastries and would hop in there to buy something every time i`d pass it :) they do have a good selection of breads, muffins and buns, but my favorite without any doubt became the CHIA & FRUIT BUN! they were simply yummy! very healthy and not too sweet. and also very cheap (only $1.4) :D the blueberry scones, however, was a bit of a let-down...

This review is for Cafe Bar Mile, Melbourne VIC

verified email - 28 Apr 2013

went to this cafe to have my brekkie while i was visiting Melbourne for a few days. Mile was a stunning discovery in the mazes of the city! the cafe is conveniently located in Flinders lane and (looking from the passer-by point of view)seemed to be like a very decent place. a place full of suited people is always a good sign :) so yes, inside there was a cozy lovely atmosphere, despite the fact that it was quite busy at the time i arrived there. was feeling really nice sitting there and watching the hectic flow of crowds through the gigantic Mile's windows while slowly sipping my morning coffee. the biggest + goes for their menu: a very healthy one! liked the idea that they are not serving any of those puffy toasts (but in stead turkish bread and the like) and selling home-made muffins (yummy!). my avocado toast was lovely, mushrooms simply divine, grilled tomatoes without their skins on and latte simply amazing! sounds like no big deal, but it is those tiny details that make a big difference. the staff was also very friendly and attentive to the customers' needs (the barista with the salvadordali-like moustaches knew his job very well too). i went there two days in a row and the quality was equally satisfying! thus, it`s a very positive sign of consistency :)
