The list on the fridge, gone by Thursday.

The jobs too small for a trade and too fiddly for a Saturday. One visit, one invoice, and the mess taken with us.

About Dave

One van, one name, twenty years of trades

Halliday is one bloke, one van and a very long list of small jobs done properly. Dave spent twenty years on building sites before working out that what people actually needed was someone reliable for the small stuff.

Bring the list. Hooks, hinges, cracks, the tap that drips, the gate that will not latch. It gets done in one visit, on one invoice, and the mess leaves in the van.

  • One-hour minimum, then by the quarter hour
  • Rubbish and old fittings go with him
  • Fixed again free if it moves inside twelve months

The whole list in one visit

Most fridge lists are two to four hours. Text it through with a photo or two and Dave will tell you before he books how long it is likely to take.

Twenty years of trades first

Building sites before the van. The shelf is level, the door actually closes and the hole in the wall is gone rather than hidden.

Same day for the small emergencies

A door that will not lock, a tap that will not stop, a step that has given way. Ring before nine and it is usually done by lunch.

Get in touch

Text the list, get a time

Photos help. Dave reads every message himself and replies with a rough time and a day, usually within the hour.

No call-out fee, nothing beyond the first hour if the job is quick, and the quote is the invoice.

Dave Halliday, owner and the one who turns up at Halliday Home Repairs
Meet Dave

Dave Halliday

Owner and the one who turns up

I spent two decades on building sites before I worked out that what people actually needed was someone reliable for the small stuff. Now the van has my name on it and the phone has my number. If you ring, it is me who answers and me who shows up.

Credentials
  • 20 years in building trades before going out on my own
  • White Card, working-with-children check, police check
  • Fully insured — public liability and tools
Our guarantee

If it is not right, I come back and fix it. No charge.

Simple as that. If a shelf sags or a door sticks again inside twelve months, ring me and I will sort it.

How it works

From first call to finished

  1. Send the list

    Text or email. Photos help.

  2. I give you a time estimate

Most lists are two to four hours. I tell you before I book.

  3. One visit

I bring the tools and the common fixings and work through it.

  4. One invoice

By the quarter hour after the first. Rubbish gone with me.

Word of Mouth

A list of about 15 small jobs I'd been putting off for three years. Dave got through all of them in an afternoon, took the old shelves to the tip and charged exactly what he said on the phone. Booked him again for the back gate.

Turned up at 8 when he said 8. Fixed the sliding door that hasn't closed properly since we moved in and re-hung two doors. Tidy, polite, fair price. Hard to find these days.

Fixed our side gate, then came back when the latch stuck again in the wet and wouldn't take anything for the second visit. Also patched a hole in the plaster and you genuinely can't tell where it was.

The questions I get asked most

Is there a job too small?
No. A single picture hook is a real job if it is on your list. We just ask that you have a few things ready so the hour is worth it.
Do you supply the materials?
Either. Bring your own, or we pick up what is needed on the way and pass the cost on at what we paid — receipt attached.
Do you do outdoor jobs?
Yes — gates, fences, gutter clearing, deck screws, letterboxes. Anything that does not need a licence.
What can you not do?
Anything electrical beyond changing a light bulb, anything with gas, and anything plumbing beyond a tap washer. I know good people for those and will give you their number.
How do I pay?
Card on the day, or a bank transfer within seven days. Invoice emailed before I leave your driveway.
Are you police-checked?
Yes, and happy to show you. I am in people's homes all day; you should be able to ask.
