Who we are
Two trucks, one crew, no strangers on moving day
Kestrel is two trucks, six removalists and an office in Coburg. Mick Doherty started it in 2016 with one truck after fifteen years moving other people's furniture for other people's companies, and the crew you meet at the quote is the crew that turns up on the day.
Every move is quoted fixed after a look at what you own, either on a video call or in person. The number covers the truck, the crew, the blankets and the time; nothing is added for stairs, a long carry or a piano.

I spent fifteen years on other companies' trucks watching good furniture get dragged, dropped and blamed on the customer. Kestrel started in 2016 with one truck and a rule that the person who quotes the job is on the job. I still drive the first truck most mornings.

If we break it, we replace it. In writing, before we lift anything.
Every job carries full transit insurance, and the crew is paid to be careful rather than fast. In nine years the claims have been three, and we paid all three inside a fortnight.

Video call or visit, fifteen minutes, and a price in writing the same day.
- Boxes and a plan
Boxes and tape dropped off a week out if you want them. We tell you what to pack and what to leave to us.
- Moving day
The crew arrives when we said. Wrapped, loaded, driven, unloaded and placed where you point.
- Beds made, boxes gone
Beds reassembled, the fridge levelled, and we take the empty boxes back the following week.

Three bed house in Preston to a two storey in Essendon. Quoted fixed after a video call, and the number on the invoice was the number on the quote even though the new place had a staircase that clearly annoyed them. Nothing scratched. Beds were made up before they left, which I did not expect.
Second time using Kestrel. Same crew as 2023 which says something. They wrap everything, even the cheap stuff, and they don't stop for a smoke every twenty minutes like the last mob we used.
Office move over a weekend, 22 desks, server rack, the lot. Set up and working by 7am Monday. Mick came in on the Friday to label everything with us which made the Monday easy.
Piano. Upright, up a flight of stairs in a Northcote terrace. Two of them on it the whole way, took their time, not a mark on the wall or the piano. Worth every cent.
Moved mum from her house of 40 years into a unit. The crew were patient with her, didn't rush, and put everything where she pointed even when she changed her mind. Kind people.
Interstate to Brisbane. Loaded Tuesday, delivered Thursday, same crew both ends which I gather is unusual. Everything arrived. Would use again.
Only gripe is they were 40 minutes late because of the Bell St traffic, but they rang ahead and then worked through lunch to make it up. Good blokes, careful with the furniture.
One bedroom flat in Brunswick, two blokes, done in three hours including the drive. They sorted the lift booking with my building manager which I'd completely forgotten about. Cheapest of the three quotes and I was half expecting that to show. It didn't.
We had six weeks between settlements so everything went into their storage in Coburg. Wrapped, palletised, and I got photos of it sitting there when I asked. Came out the other end exactly as it went in, no musty smell, nothing missing.
Paid for the packing service and I'd do it again. Two women turned up with the boxes and had the whole kitchen done in a morning, labelled by cupboard, not just 'kitchen'. Unpacking was the easiest part of the whole move.
Fridge, washer and a very heavy old dresser up a narrow staircase in Fitzroy North. They disconnected and reconnected the washing machine themselves, which the last company told me they weren't allowed to do. No damage to the stair rail either, which I'd warned them about.
Booked them a week out for a Saturday which I gather is peak. Price didn't change for the weekend, which surprised me. Four guys, big truck, three bedroom in Reservoir done by 2pm. Only thing I'd say is bring your own coffee, they start early.

Questions
What people ask before they book
Do you charge by the hour or a fixed price?
Fixed, after we have seen what you own. Hourly quotes reward slow crews; a fixed price means the day is our problem, not yours.
Do I need to empty drawers and wardrobes?
Drawers can stay full if the piece is solid. Wardrobe boxes come with the truck, so clothes go across on their hangers.
What about the piano, the pool table or the fish tank?
Yes to all three, and they are in the quote. Pianos travel on their own trolley with two people on them the whole way.
Are my things insured?
Yes, transit insurance on every job, included in the price. If we break it, we replace it.
Can you store things between houses?
Yes. Our own storage in Coburg, by the week, with your things wrapped and on their own pallets.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks for a weekday, four for a Saturday or the end of the month. Ring anyway if it is sooner; cancellations happen.
