I highly recommend Dr Phil and Dr Ruth. They are very knowledgeable and passionate about the care they deliver. I must thank Dr Ruth for looking after my sick cockatiel so well recently. My bird had a blood test one Saturday morning which turned out to be quite abnormal. I received a phone call at about 7pm that night and was given the bad news. She was very kind, in no hurry to go and answered all my questions. With the treatment she started he is now back to his old self but with ongoing health problems.

Thank you Bird Vet Melbourne for saving my bird! I took my cockatiel Peako to the vet when I noticed he was vomiting. After a few seconds into the examination, the vet knew immediately what was wrong. Peako had been chewing on natural rope that I used in his cage to tie toys/branches. He had ingested a concerning amount of this fibre & if not acted on fast by an Avarian specialist, would have resulted in death as it was sitting in his stomach impacting his digestion. I adore my little guy to bits & would never dream of doing anything to harm him. Unfortunately, Avarian vets see fibre impaction regularly as almost all bird toys contain some element of rope. If you have rope in your birds cage I highly recommend removing it immediately. Please please please be aware of what you are providing your bird. Rope toys look pretty & fun but they are just not worth it.

Over many years this practice, Dr. Phil and the staff, have provided outstanding service and care for whatever creatures we have brought to the clinic, whether mammalian or avian, and always at a reasonable cost. We cannot recommend them highly enough, and hope that they flourish so we can be assured of being able to access the continuing high level of expert care that we owe to our birds and animals.

Dr Phil and the amazing nurses here are awesome. I had a very sick cockatiel and from the moment we arrived they were awesome. Very caring and treatment was started immediately as she wasn't very well at all. After a couple of days with them she came home in much better health. The service here was top notch. Was even given a mobile number when we came home to send updates over the weekend or ask any questions while the clinic was closed. Don't get that kind of service many places these days.

They may be called 'Bird Vet Melbourne', but I have been taking my dog here for over a decade. It is a small practice, and so they do get to know their clients better than many larger vets. They are all friendly and thoroughly competent. I have no hesitation in recommending bird-vet.com to others for general vet practice

Can't speak any more highly of Dr Phil, and their amazing staff . We had our spoodle Lucy desexed. The updates with texts, photos and phone calls have been so appreciated. It's comforting to know that Lucy is being cared for with such compassion and care. she is back at home, as active as ever, and completely over her surgery. It was comforting knowing that we could contact Dr Phil the Vet literally at any time we needed guidance or had any concerns; We had his mobile number!! Thanks"

Dr Esther, nurse Georgina and all the vet nurses were fantastic, helpful and full of immediate information regarding helping my Canaries get over their respiritory illnesses. Extremely accessible in person and over the phone. They saved all 6 canaries lives with quick,accurate and timely diagnosis, treatment and aftercare. They genuinely were interested in helping me and my birds. Thankyou.

Went to see Dr Esther in relation to my 13yo Staffy's bad teeth. We had appt Thursday evening and he had surgery Friday am. Fantastic service for half the price of our long time vet. Thank you everyone. We will be back in the future.

Excellent care of my pet Canary - needing an operation on his feather cysts. Excellent pre-operative information and discussion of the pros and cons of the procedure. Excellent post procedure care and notes. Excellent information to pass on to my usual vets - on the other side of town.

Bird Vet Melbourne - Professional, Caring, Compassionate. Honesty, caring for a very special family member aged 45 yrs. Our "Barney" a Sulphur crested cockatoo, has "Beak and Feather" disease, and her care here is superb! Experts in the field of Avian medicine, I would not even think about taking my bird anywhere else

Without the caring help from Burwood Bird and Animal Hospital I would find it almost impossible to look after my chickens alone. Dr Phil Sacks has always been a great man to deal with. Highly recommended, they are thorough friendly caring and always helpful.

I came to Bird vet Melbourne as a novice Budgie owner. A fist year apprentice ! I learned so much about bird handling, bird feeding, parrot training and housing. I felt my bird was cared for and my own needs also; were addressed.

You are wonderful People Dr Phil, Jacinta and other team members! The kindest of hearts! You all have such passion for your work I cannot thank you enough for helping my cockatiel Sunny with the injury to her crushed leg. I would never hesitate to recommend any feathered babies to be trusted in your care. Also my alexandrine 'Romano' was seen by Dr Phil and he was most impressed with my bird's health. The importance I place in feeding him a balance of vegetables, fruit, pellets and some seeds has well and truly paid off. Also the use of gum tree branches for them to perch on is much better than the bought rods. They are kept busy chewing them and great for their feet and assorted Australian gum nuts of all shapes and sizes to keep his beak in top shape. Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr Phil!

A big THANK YOU to Dr Phil Sacks and his staff for removing obstructing life threatening fibres from a much loved cockatiel. This procedure had to be done due to fibrous perches and toys inside the birds enclosure. 'Goku' became so fond of them that he decided to ingest them....A few days on he developed a huge lump in his chest.He lost a lot of weight because the fibres were obstructing any food that tried to make it's way through the digestive system. I asked Dr. Phil why these products are on our shelves when they can do so much harm? His reply: Why do we buy chocolate when it is so bad for our teeth or why don't we exercise more when it is so good for us? Anyway, I got the drift.This is my plead to all those caring bird lovers : PLEASE avoid products with fibres for your beloved companions. Not only was it a costly (but worthy ) procedure but the animal suffers .I know that many of us are not aware of these things and we think that we are doing our animals favours by providing them with these products. In this case not so . Now from experience I will stay well away from perches with fibres!!! Thanks to Dr. PHIL 'Goku' is all well and is making up for all those undigested treats. In other words he gets spoiled you wouldn't believe. Thumbs up for the 'Burwood Animal and Bird Hospital'.

Our experience at this clinic was phenomenal ! our beloved bird Pecka had 2 Fatty tumours removed & after 5 days being hospitalised we brought him home today prior to taking Pecka to the clinic we knew he was very sick & feared the worse. Thank you so much Dr Phil & staff

We took our canary, Mango here after he was attacked and the vet helped us set up our cage wonderfully and he is so much happier now for it. Many people don't realise how great canaries are as pets but the staff here really appreciated Mango's character. He now is doing so much better.

Took my 15 year old kelpie x in for much needed dental work, clean & scale plus removal of two teeth. Dr. Phil Sacks did the procedure and was very thorough in explaining everything from sedation to the risk involved.....older dogs can be a bit touch & go under anaesthetic. But Phil was very reassuring. Ask him about tiger teeth sometime! She was home the same day & eating normally. Needless to say she was much happier & bouncing around like a puppy within a day or two! Follow up phone calls from Phil & Jacinta were also proof of a caring & professional team. Thanks guys!

The Doctors and the Staff at The Bird Vet Clinic have done amazing job to look after my Budgie since September 2015. My Budgie has ongoing issues with his eye feathers. Their treatment, knowledge, professionalism, friendliness, compassion & attention to detail is first class. I highly recommend their services to any person who loves their pet and requires medical or behavioural assistance.

I was actually highly advised by someone in a similar field to see Dr Pat about the problem my parrot had. (He was deteriorating, and this was of great concern). I always get quite anxious when I have to see some-one different because I want the "best" looking after my sick parrot. On this occasion however I was extremely impressed with Dr Michelle Sutherland. She took the time to undertake a thorough examination of 'Loui', explained to me and my children the options, her proposed care plan, and recommendations including the rationale behind a compulsory hospital stay, that included crop feeding. In final, I will only be returning with my birds to Dr Sutherland. She is a excellent avian vet, and great communicator with adults and children.

After having been referred by my local(ish) vet, Charlie (my 6 mo eclectus) and I have had the pleasure to meet Dr Michelle Sutherland. She is very knowledgeable, very helpful and extremely generous with her time â€“ she made time to call me, meet with me, answer my questions and explained really well what's going with Charlie, so I was updated (and reassured!) during Charlie's hospitalisation. Michelle is very understanding and put a lot of effort in both Charlie and me (!), which I really appreciate. I highly recommend Dr Michelle Sutherland and I'm very thankful for all her help. Thank you Michelle. In fact, from now on I will happily travel 1 to 1.5 hours just to have all my parrots cared for by Michelle (and all friendly staff at the clinic). They're just way 'above' the rest of the 'avian' vets out there! Lisa

Dr Phil, Dr Pat have looked after my rainbow lorakeet for a few years now. Amazing service and care have been provided at some very difficult times. ( Merlin was not a well bird). Two years later and Dr Michele is now looking after Lady. Great service on all occasions that i visit the hospital

Thanks so much Dr Phil and everyone at Burwood Bird and Animal Hospital for helping to get our dog Skippa (7 year old Schnoodle) through pancreatitis. Two words for all pet owners...pet insurance....we're so glad we had it as it made Skippa's treatment possible without the stress of worrying about bills. Dr. Phil's ongoing care and attention has meant that we have our lively pooch back 'full of beans'. We really like how he takes the time to educate and explain (complete with whiteboard diagrams!) what he is doing and has a genuine interest in the wellbeing of all animals. Thanks again to you and all of your team.

I have a 23 year old Cockatiel, who is very special to us. We have had very traumatic experiences in the past with other vets - for both myself and our little boy. Dr. Phil was just brilliant in the way that he interacted with our little boy, and with his in depth knowledge and expertise in caring for geriatric birds. Dr. Phil was so caring, and gentle with our little boy. We have been having ongoing issues with him for a few months, and Dr. Phil suggested so many things which have made such a difference to his quality of life. Dr. Phil has completely renewed my faith in taking our boy to the vet - I think that our little Cockatiel liked Dr. Phil more than me by the end of the visit, which is a big thing. Dr. Phil really helped me to understand the issues our little boy is having as a geriatric bird, and to improved both our quality of lives - as I think that I may have been more stressed than the bird.

I have been taking my pet cockatiel Ollie (Olivia) to see Dr Phil for the past 11 years. He has saved his/her life many times and has always taken special care of my beautiful bird. Ollie was recently found to be a female after many years of thinking he was a male. He recently suffered egg yolk peritionitis and had 15mls of fluid drained then after an implant, he has fully recovered. I highly recommend Dr Phil, and all his friendly, helpful staff. It is also great that they are available on the weekends. Many thanks to Dr Phil and all your staff.

We were referred to Dr. Phil by our local vet when our cockatiel Pablo fell ill. I have no doubt that the reason he is still with us is because of the specialised treatment and care he received. Dr. Phil and the clinic staff went above and beyond when diagnosing and treating him. I will never take Pablo anywhere else. Thoroughly recommended!

Every time we go to see Dr Phil, he is personble, friendly but above all, very caring. We drive almost an hour as he was recommended to us by a friend and I would have no hesitation in saying he i the best vet I have ever come across. The Fabulous Dr Phil Sacks attended to my budgie AJ who had suffered a broken leg at the claws of a cat! The care and concern for this tiny patient were amazing - a cast was constructed for the leg and it healed completely - as good as new. Would highly recommend this practice - staff are friendly, professional and expert.

My four week old baby Lorikeet "Boomi" had broken her leg and it healed in the wrong direction. We took her to see Dr. Phil who fixed her leg and raped it up in bandages. She soon started to Stand up on her own and walk. Now she is a year and a half old and her feet are so strong that she can hand upside down from the tips of her toes. I strongly recommend this vet for anyone and everyone who love their pet as much as I do.
