For over 40 years, Sorrento Village Shopping Centr

For over 40 years, Sorrento Village Shopping Centre has serviced the Gold Coast’s northern city centre, becoming a distinctive landmark within the area. Over the years, the building has undergone multiple extensions resulting in a disjointed layout.

The new centre refurbishment focused on upgrading the amenities and infrastructure, restoring the building integrity and enhance the user’s experience as they navigate through the centre. The scope of works included a new street presence, reconfiguring the tenancies, creating additional lettable floor area and reinvigorating the central courtyard. We worked closely with the centre owner to ensure the continued support of the long-term tenants during and after the renovation.

The redesign introduced a green alfresco dining area in the existing central courtyard, which serves as a common covered area that can be occupied by diners all year round. The addition of large planters and climbing vegetation is reminiscent of an indoor atrium to celebrate the Gold Coast’s subtropical climate. Perforated façade screening allows diffused sunlight to enter the semi-outdoor spaces and softens the building exterior to create a warm and inviting environment for patrons. Decorative lighting is a unique feature which illuminates the central courtyard area, accentuating the double void space and highlighting the centre at night.

Introducing another one of our talented designers, Seyma Cengiz.

Seyma is the latest addition to our studio space, bringing with her a wealth of housing and landscape architecture experience. She has made a vibrant impact on our office, organising social events and handling our product presentations, to bring our team closer together and up to date on the latest industry information.

She has quickly gained traction within commercial designs within the office, having just completed documentation on the next stage of one of the Gold Coast’s most famous theme parks announced later this year. Seyma’s bubbly personality brings excitement and enthusiasm to any project she is involved in and brightens our office daily.

HHH are excited to hear that the newest mural to grace our building during the 2022 Surface Festival has won Best External Mural at the 2023 Australian Street Art Awards. It is so special to have such a striking piece of artwork along our building facade welcoming our clients and staff into our office daily.

We look forward to seeing all the beautiful additions to be added to the streets of Miami at the Surface Festival 2024 later this year.

We wish to congratulate our senior draftsman, Robert Gerlinger, as he celebrates 26 years at HHH Architects. The team have been extremely fortunate to have him as the guiding force of our office, providing his invaluable problem-solving skills and expertise to ensure the highest standard of quality and efficiency is achieved in each project.

Rob is a strong leader and mentor within the HHH team, with exceptional construction knowledge and detailing in commercial, high rise, multi-residential, residential, educational and medical design. Currently under construction, Caribbean House in Main Beach is designed to comfortably fit a family of four. The architectural composition is a fusion of multiple influences expressed through deep covered patios, archway accents and stone and timber detailing.

The ground floor features a rumpus room, large covered alfresco, pool area and an outdoor courtyard extending off the living zones. The second storey can be accessed by a grand entry staircase, leading to an open plan living, kitchen and dining, two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The top level has been created as a master suite, with private terraces, a bathroom, and an indoor entertainment space.

With construction underway on Mercy Drive House, we are excited to see the design come to life at our recent site visit in Mackay.

The design creates a timeless architectural style characterised by bold horizontal and vertical planes accentuated by natural timber and textured stone detailing. Spacious double height zones within the outdoor patio and living areas provide luxurious entertainment spaces filled with natural lighting and ventilation. Side stacked bi-fold doors allow the interior spaces to completely open out to the sheltered outdoor and pool areas to accommodate the client’s lifestyle needs.
